So what's everyone's thoughts on Spencer Lenui v Jono Thurston?

Is Spencer a naughty boy or do we condone his actions?

For me, I think Lenui is a fucking loose unit. While I'm not overly fussed about the actual incident, there's a reason players aren't berating sideline commentators every weekend...because it's bang out of order.

For me, Lenui seems like he can't manage to keep his cool. This is now his 3rd incident (flair up v JWH during a game, then confronting Mam after the match) where he's taken things too far. I don't think it's ban worthy but he needs to pull his head in

Leniu.

I think Leniu has every right to not want to be interviewed by Thurston, but the way he went about it just makes him look like a f-wit. Nothing to be punished for though.

Thurston would've said something after the "monkey" comment last year. So maybe that's behind it.

Sometimes the league (and other sports)media do act like they can whatever they like without consequences- this is what consequences of comments look like.
Spencer looked to go a bit overboard but I don’t disagree with the sentiment, particularly with Thurston who gets put on a pedestal despite having a few skeletons in his closet also

Do you think Thurston was out of line with what he said regarding the whole monkey thing? Even if you disagree with him about the 12 weeks...and I do....what gives Lenui the right to act like an absolute prick during, and immediately after a game?

I understand that sometimes critics and pundits can be quite harsh on a player, but from what I remember, Thurston - a proud indigenous man - basically said he's disappointed the NRL didn't crack down on this harsher.

Lenui's clearly a hot head with a chip on his shoulder. Just seems to have a shit character about him

Yeah, he was cuddling Ezra but was silent when the whole drug driving incident happened. JT was well aware of Spencer's temperament when making all those comments so it should hardly be a surprise Spencer responded to those comments in person. Don't see anything wrong there.

In saying that, Spencer is a lose canon and creates trouble everywhere he goes.

Bit different when he is specifically asked about the Leniu incident on air, whereas he was not with regards to the Mam drug driving incident.

Look Thurston can say whatever he likes and obviously the Mam incident hit close to home. What he can’t expect is to go in on Spencer then act like everything’s ok - which I think Spencer has a right to not want to engage with Thurston.
Spencer is a hot head and went a bit hard himself but can also see the hypocrisy on Thurston having a strong opinion on a player when he’s the victim but then turning a blind eye when that same player does some pretty reprehensible shit- likewise the shit Thurston himself got swept under the rug.

Was that his partner trying to drag him away with her arm around him? Just seems like he can’t control the red mist sometimes. Would love to see how he goes in a boxing ring because sometimes players are reliant on the threat of suspensions to keep everyone in line regarding throwing down, like Reed Mahoney relies on

Yeah and the way the Queensland team treated the media after the Alex McKinnon piece. Apparently Leniu was refusing to talk to him, which is exactly what Queensland did to channel 9 in that case. Leniu obviously has a short fuse and took it too far, but I did feel sorry for him at the time and thought it was taken way too far.

It will be interesting to see how the NRL now handles it. If there is no punishment (which I don’t think there should be), do the Warriors go nuclear over the Agar ban?

Must be so many players who have had shit articles written about them by journalists and are able to still converse with them. Think Thurston is an idiot, but I think Leniu is too

And a player has a right to respond wherever he wants.

How does the pundit get to do it infront of national television and the player has to respond in private?
He's in the middle of a fucking game..if im Roosters fan (thank god im fucking not) or coaching staff....I'd sort of want him to focus on that.

An opinion based league show on national television is formatted for exactly that.

That’s a bit of cop out.
He campaigned to get Leniu suspended longer than what the NRL thought was appropriate.

He was so strong on emotional harm but when someone got physically harmed he went missing.

Mam getting 1 week more than Leniu for potentially killing someone was weak as piss and if JT come out and said something then alls fair but you can’t talk about harm over words then turn a blind eye to actual physical harm imo.
