NRL NRL Round 9 2026 Discussion

If panthers lose this game i don't think alamoti is ever going to be picked above tago again.

Manly did well to keep it close, but totally screwed the pooch in the late sinbin period with errors and nothing plays. Missed opportunity for us to be first equal 😅

There's only one game that needs us to be first in and we're tracking ok to get there and have a dance

Manly's third try was not a try. Always thought Penrith had this even though they were as off as they were in the dogs game. The ladder is starting to clear up a bit now. Good time to have a bye because a lot of teams directly below us will play us next week. Looking forward to watching next week without stress of our game.

Hope everyone belts the living snot out of each other

With our bye coming up, looks like a good time to reassess where we are. At the end of round 9 last year, we were in 3rd with p/d of 0:

This year, we are 2nd with p/d of 108. Our defence is as sturdy as it was last year (174 vs 170) but our attack is miles better: we've scored 100 pts more than we did this time last season (278 vs 174). Important to note that we are the only team in both top 4s: the other top 4 teams from last year are now outside the 8 (Dogs, Melbourne and Canberra).

I guess one can also view these results in the prism of the team under Mets vs team under Boyd. Clearly both are top 4 teams, but under our current configuration, we are just a much more deadly and organized attacking unit.

Damn if boyd is our our main/only reason our attack has gone up by 108 points! Surely he must be worth a lot more than 900k. Cannot think of a single other player in the comp who has had that level of impact on a team.

On the otherside, i wounder if the better he goes at the moment the more likely we are to get him for an extra year. Because of how tax brackets work, the more you earn the greater the diffrence you get from PNG. So if he starts to command that 1.1-1.3m, he'd make an extra 500k+ just going to PNG.
