NRL NRL Expansion

the QLD v NSW analogy is a joke. Warriors might be QLD, but the southern team doesn't even fucking exist.

Those Auckland FC shirt-lifters didn't exist three months ago, now their rivalry with the Welly pansies in the Z league is the biggest rivalry in NZ sport.

Doesn't take nostradamus to realise a potential NRL rivalry would provide the biggest games on the calender every year even if they were both running last.

Yes the Warriors potentially could have done more but also think the ARL have sat back and expected the Warriors to do their job for them also- just look how far the Auckland league scene has fallen in the last 30years

Rugby league is a tough game, played by tough blue collar people and Auckland is anything but blue collar these days.

Thankful for the Polynesian community, game would've died in Auckland years ago without them.

There basically is nothing professional about this Kea bid

Not only are they releasing more AI slop like this, they said they are going to do it every week, and haven't done it again in four weeks lol

Haha. This is great! Poor AI generated images really screams an "ambitious, well-funded bid" and a "transformative vision".

Suggesting the Warriors should re-bid for their license is ridiculous - what possibly could be gained by even suggesting that, other than hinting to everyone that Abdo and PVL have already told them that NZ2 won't happen for some time (a nice "its not you, its us" message to keep Moffett out of their calendars for a while).

Hope the Endacott and Lowe bid can get that deal done

They sure love their “Reby league” down south with their CCC x Adidas co-labs lol doesn’t scream professional if they don’t even proof anything before releasing it

If I owned the Warriors I would've moved them to Welly after 25 years of failure and they'd be the Orcas now.
Put everyone on a 1 year contract. Effort in or F off.

NRL should'a polled the players down to U21s who would relocate to a compound in Port Moresby, no night life, no women, wives and kids living in effectively house arrest 24/7 for 1 year zero tax.

What about kindy and schooling? PNG schooling, Oz, NZ? Embassy run?

No for me.

Yeah highly doubt many aussies will bring the WAGs and kids to the compound. Could be a recruitment problem for older players. But money talks, no doubt there'll be plenty of deep state sponsorship propping up the operation.

Moffett's comments that the Warriors should have to bid for their license are ridiculous.

I joked on the Balmain/Western Suburbs rift for the Tigers that Western Suburbs should bid for the license if the Wests Tigers fell apart. That was more ingest and also was to point out it was a club struggling financially in the competition over 25 years ago. Also the old too many Sydney teams argument which was always brought up before the ARLC was formed.

Removing a Sydney side if the opportunity arose would provide more options for expansion locations.

Removing a current side would be difficult. The NRL clubs have ownership of the ARLC along with the state leagues. We have seen in the past when the ARLC have pushed too hard some clubs have banded together to try and push out the Commissioners. That led to some concessions so the Commissioners could save their jobs.

The NRL is considering a second NZ side. Moffett's yelling about replacing the current one doesn't achieve the second side and comes off as desperate. After covid the Warriors would be safe. Imagine the headlines after all of the comments of the Warriors saving the game.

I want a second NRL side and after seeing the rivalry between the two A-League sides even more so. The bid sides throwing shade at the existing club don't mean much until the bid gets approved and we get signings and game scheduled.

The lack of success. Yes, it has been frustrating. It also shows how hard the competition is if you don't get things right. Sydney clubs with all of their advantages have also struggled without premierships for decades as well. It just makes all the more satisfying when they do win a premiership.

The David Moffett comments are pure play, stirring the pot to raise the profile of the bid. Take out the silly business and a 2nd team out of NZ makes perfect sense for both profile of the game in NZ and Australia and its commercial rights opportunities. The perfect scenario is a long lead time as with PNG to ensure any potential team is built on strong governance and commercial foundations.
