NRL NRL 2025 General Recruitment Thread

New Gold Coast coach Josh Hannay presiding over a clean-out which could see up to 16 players depart the Titans

The Titans are putting a broom through the embattled NRL club with up to 16 players set to exit the Gold Coast ahead of the arrival of new coach Josh Hannay. See everyone who’s on the way out.

The cash-strapped Titans have begun clearing the ranks ahead of new coach Josh Hannay’s arrival with up to 16 players potentially headed for the exits on the Gold Coast.
Hannay is set to preside over a Titanic clean-out in his quest to free up salary cap space and transform Gold Coast from NRL cellar dwellers into premiership contenders.

The Titans will farewell eight players from their top squad at Tuesday’s Paul Broughton Medal awards night which will signal the end of Des Hasler’s unsuccessful two-year tenure on the Coast.

While Kieran Foran (retired) and Iszac Fa’asuamaleaui (Catalans) are moving on to new ventures, the Titans will also bid farewell to Tom Weaver, Jacob Alick-Wienke, Harley Smith-Shields, Sean Mullany, Ryan Foran and Ben Liyou.

Ryan Foran and Liyou were part of the club’s top 30 squad for the past two years without playing NRL.

A number of other Titans players are also facing uncertain futures on the Gold Coast.

Former Blues and Kangaroos prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard signed a three-year contract to join the Titans from Parramatta but could depart after just one season.

RCG’ has been linked with a move to the Super League, but has indicated he doesn’t want to leave the NRL.

Wingers Alofiana Khan-Pereira, Allan Fitzgibbon and Tony Francis are with forward Arama Hau in a group of players seeking clarity over where they sit in the club’s plans.

The Warriors are courting Khan-Pereira after he fell out-of-favour with Hasler and was relegated to reserve grade this year after being the NRL’s leading tryscorer in 2024.

Francis was handed a two-year contract extension this season, but the Titans are open to releasing him to a rival club while a decision is yet to be made on Hau and Fitzgibbon’s futures.

Star forward David Fifita is also set to sever ties with the Titans.

Fifita has been granted permission to enter negotiations with South Sydney, who are attempting to offload Super League flop Lewis Dodd so they can afford to bring Fifita to Redfern.

Outside backs Phil Sami and Brian Kelly have been informed they will not be offered contract extension beyond the end of 2026.

At this stage Fifita, Sami and Kelly will be at the Titans next season, however that could change over the coming months.

Sami was one of Gold Coast’s more consistent performers this season while Kelly has attracted interest from the Super League.

At this stage, Gold Coast’s only new recruit for 2026 is fringe Bulldogs forward Kurtis Morrin as the Titans deal with a full salary cap that has left them with little room to sign players.

Cronulla assistant coach Hannay will in the coming weeks formally take charge of a Titans club that has finished in the NRL’s bottom four for the past four consecutive seasons.

Hasler’s assistant coaches Jim Lenihan, Michael Monaghan and Brett White have already been informed they do not have futures on the Gold Coast and now a number of players are set to follow.

Hannay has enlisted Newcastle’s Brian McDermott as his chief assistant while Brad Davis will remain and Kieran Foran will join the team as a playmaking mentor.

I wouldn’t.
Scored a nice try against us when the game was gone but his spark and pace are not as good as they were.
They’ve had loads of outside back injuries in first grade and he hasn’t been called in.
In
Eels and roosters showing interest apparently

Think titans fans would automatically be impressed if he gets Campbell to extend, which I think he will. Tino will be interesting, think storm are really interested?

Biggest issue imo that the Titans have (aside from Tino leaving) is figuring out what they're going to do with 3 guys (Campbell, Brimson, Kini) who will command top dollar, but are best suited to fullback.

Think Brimson is the one who could struggle to find a position, though as a Queenslanders he and Hannay will likely have a good relationship? Kini has fullback locked up and I think Campbell will continue to play 7. Brimson has had a shot at five eighth and centre and hasn’t really been able to cement either

Just saw that Brimson is contracted at 850k until 2029! On top of Kini who they haven't listed his contract price but I'm assuming it will be reasonable.

Can they afford to sign Campbell too? Would be pretty dire tying up all three for about 2.5 mill or so...

I'd take any of the 3 tbh, but Brimson on 700k with the Titans chipping in a bit would really add some spark to our backline

I've been thinking for a while that Brimson would be a player the Titans would be open to losing off their roster. His contract would be key to their rebalance.

Brimson just won the player of the year award 2025 at their end of year function last night.
he can play 6 or centre.
Kelly and Sami who are centres and sometimes wingers and have been told they can go end of 26.
Forans retired -he played 6 this year.
Brimson can play 6 or centre. Kini 1 and Campbell 7 and all of some of them will be injured part of the year.
Really guys if you think the Titans are going to release Kini Brimson or Campbell I say tell em you are dreaming.
Hannay will build a team round those guys.

From what I understand they are looking for a 6. $850,000 is a lot for a centre.

You would definitely know better than anyone on this forum about what the Titans are doing, I just always look at a cap and where the money is balanced. Like when we had a fortune tied up in Manu on the wing. A big player for us, but a big overspend for that position that hurts the cap elsewhere.

What would you say are the positions the Titan's most need to fill, and how much will they need to invest to do it well?

2 positions that Carter Gordon who’s rated over there plays in too. Would love Brimson as our fullback

I only go by what I read in the local media

But positions they would be looking to strengthen
Prop
A six
Centre/s

Wings

As far as cap goes it’s prob even a question in the Titans back office as the recruitment guy moved on and of course Des going and Hannah coming in

I can say their ticket revenue is stable but not increasing - my season tickets for 26 are same price as 25

I don’t have a handle on up and comers through their feeder clubs but Burleigh Bears moved away and aligned with the Broncos last year
However Titans have Ipswich Jets which is a strong generator of rl stars

Just read on their forum that Brimson at the awards night mentioned he wants to play 6 next year apparently

Braith Anasta spotted with Jason Ryles. Bit of talk Jonah Pezet is wanting $500k per year for a 3 year deal. Souths were offered him on loan for a season but souths turned it down
