NRL NRL 2025 General Recruitment Thread

I think it’s a nothingburger against the coach of a team wobbling, but it can derail Madge’s contract if they don’t start winning a few games in a row
Walsh will be back soon and with Ezra playing now will be better combos with Reynolds. Won't lose either of them to Origin probably either. I can see the Broncos finishing the back half of the season quite strong.

I'm actually quite sympathetic with Madge on this one. It's such a sad reflection on society that in the year 2025 it's now acceptable for young athletes to complain about hard work and high standards. If anything, ET's post is a greater reflection on him than it is on Madge. Makes me think that he might have been a contributor to the culture problems at our club during the ME era. Sad really, I used to really like him and thought he was an honest toiler especially during the Cleary years.

Have you actually watched the Elijah post?

I don't think ET is shirking hard work, just that Madge is overly intense. Probably wears thin if things aren't going to plan having a mad cunt go off week in, week out - everyone on egg shells. Imagine it's already a pretty stressful environment with wins/losses the determining factor. I feel like you want a coach to even out the rollercoaster, not make it worse.

have you? He's complaining about having a coach holding players to account during review sessions. If you can't handle overly intense situations, you have no business being a professional rugby league player. I'm sure what Madge puts his players through is nothing compared to Bellamy at the Storm and you never hear a peep from the Melbourne players complaining about his methods.

ET is a professional RL player - I'm assuming his intense means the guy is over the top. He's saying someone 'gets cooked' in the video sessions, that's not accountability. You can hold people to account and expect high standards without roasting them. Shouting as a norm doesn't generally foster a great working environment.

The difference with Bellamy's methods is they work - there's something different/missing in Madge's kit bag. Maybe Bellamy isn't intense all the time, he might control it better - Perhaps Bellamy's better at fostering one on one relationships which counter the intensity in other areas. Maybe he's better at delivering the message/giving feedback and work-ons. Bellamy is doing something that Madge is missing.

Didn't Madge learn under Bellamy?

The powers that be saw Madge as an old school disciplinarian to wrest back the soft underbelly of the Broncos.

Society has moved on. Young guys don't respond to that anymore. Leaders with that approach are dinosaurs. You have to be relational in this day and age. Cleary, Bennett are father figures, and as ruthless as the Storm is I'd say Bellamy treats his guys with a lot of respect.

Probably not the same case but I had a very talented owner/boss who’d pick and have a go at one staff every meeting and during the week basically insult the staffs to the extent clients get upset from hearing it directly

The company became a bit of washing machine where the turnover rate is high and they’d hire new graduates who don’t know what normal is, until they hear how their friends were treated professionally elsewhere

I guess you could check if broncos senior players stick around or want out to gauge if the review sessions are personal and toxic, junior players who really want it probably could put up for a while
