Galvin grew up supporting the Eels, and his initially requests last year were in order to play for them I believe.

If it is a boyhood dream then it is a bit more understandable than the "why the hell would he want to play for the shitty Eels" perspective.

I've always wondered how easy it is for a guy to switch allegiances. You whānau supporting a club is something you feel in your bones.
As I understand wasn't he released by the Eels because he was not good enough
Is that right??

I've heard that quoted when this has been discussed. His progress was blocked at the Eels or they didn't see much of a future for him.

Benji played him alongside or instead of the other halves he signed. The Tigers showed a lot of faith in him. They are playing a good brand of football at the moment, and he seemed to be linking well with Luai. You'd expect he'd be happy. If he is upset with the coach or development has he done the old fashioned thing at talked to them?

I can't help but feel Jerry Maguire is the Tigers and Bob Sugar is the Eels with Cush Galvin.

Tigers I think have done all they can. Recruited well and put a team around Galvin, playing him in first grade and giving him tat development and experience, offered him the best money he probably is going to get including an upgrade for next season. He's turned them down. They have covered all their bases with the fans, sponsors, players etc. they can now drop him to cup with the message of we were only playing him because we saw him as the future of the club, he won't sign on for longer so it's best we continue to put first grade time and development in to other players and Galvin may get more opportunities through injury and form.

This is interesting. Has the Warriors ever had anyone eligible for PNG on our roster?View attachment 12588
That is actually pretty smart from the NRL. It would be pretty awful to introduce a team that gets smoked by 50+ every week, which is is pretty likely. It would also expose the political motivations for bringing in a club, not based on what they can do footy-wise.

Worth looking at. How does it apply to PNG players born and bred in Australia e.g. Lauchlin Lam, Jack De Berlin.

Must have played junior football in PNG, as opposed to PNG-eligible.

In the same way we look to Aussie for halves, I think it may be worth a look at PNG for a winger, but even then, not sure the club will (or should) block the path of a homegrown player with a Papua New Guinean, regardless of cap exemptions.

As a whole though, it's a great idea.

Not sure that it is smart

It is not a given that a PNG player taken in by another NRL club would want to join a PNG based team when it starts up so your left with a PNG based team potentially with "underdeveloped" players
