Luke Metcalf has tonight informed the One New Zealand Warriors he has reached an agreement to join another NRL club at the end of the season.

“We look forward to Luke continuing to be a valuable part of our squad for the rest of 2026,” said One New Zealand Warriors CEO Cameron George.

That’s that, now let’s send him out with a prem.

I don't know about any of you guys but I actually feel sorry for Metcalf a little bit. He just re-signed not long ago and now he's gonna cut his stay short. I reckon he genuinely liked it here. Nobody could have predicted Boyd was gonna play so well and keep Metcalf out of the team. Its a shame he didn't want to give 5/8 a go. No player is before the team. If Boyd does get injured who is gonna be backup half with no Metcalf here?

TMM. CHT could play there and someone else could play 6 (e.g. TMM, Gannon, CNK). Cleary could debut. Plus Metcalf could play there this year.

Then bied your time and don’t be a sook? Nobody asked him to leave

I am down the middle with my feelings on MR Metcalf.

On the negative side I am pissed off with how this all throws a spanner in the works of our season while we were meant to be all on a high and focussing on our team.

But most of all I am pissed off for Tanah Boyd, who has the pressure and stress of knowing his team mate threw the dummy and walked, rather than partner Boyd in the halves (lets remove CHT from this situation and look at how Boyd must feel).

That aside, I like Luke, I like that he is going to a team that desperately needs something to pick them up.

I believe that the idea we are weakened is now in the hands of the Gods, if our icumbent halves stay fit.....then we are not weakened, Metcalf is surplus to requirements.

But most of all I am am relieved we got him out of here before he broke something else and before he dragged the dressing room down.

The Warriors invested Millions in this guys rehab, and they were patient and Loyal, but he kept breaking, and someone else cam along, it is life.
Boyd’s feelings? Boyd put Metcalf in the cuck chair and took his job while he was out injured - he’ll be feeling great!

The guy chased the bag mate.. Got the money, got a longer contract to move closer to home. Why would you feel sorry for him? This was led by him and him only. To not even fight for the chance to play 7 is telling vs the wanting to play 7 narrative.

That would be fair were it not for Metcalf refusing to play along side him.

What I do not get with this situation is why people overlook that Metcalf has choices. He has options. Same options that our other two halves live with day in day out.

People act like this guy was just unwanted period.

He did play alongside him, 2 weeks on his non favoured side in his non favoured role, didn’t go well.

Reckon he woulda been dropped for CHT after that sharks game if he didn’t get hurt.

Boyd is the chosen one now

The last few weeks I've been following some internet drama. That was hard enough to keep up with. Then having to add dramas with my favourite team.

I hope it is over now.

Wow, just catching up with the news.

Am happy with the quick resolution, hope the boys will galvanise even more and we give it to the Broncs at magic round. Probably makes sense for Metcalf to get a quick release especially with his injury background.

Surely if he was "chasing the bag" he would of grabbed one of the higher value contract he was getting offered at the end of last year... Seems a bit blind to narrow it down to somthing as simple as that.

Metcalf will be motivated when he arrives at the Dragons. We saw the benefit of that last year when he was given an opportunity to take over the halfback spot after Johnson retired.

I stated Boyd decided to stay here last year as he felt like he was improving here. If he left he should be careful on which club he went to. Webster has done well getting the best out of players. The form may not continue at another club.

Hopefully, Metcalf has found that at the Dragons. Although their coach for next year is still up in the air.

I've also mentioned in the past how clubs recruit big to turn things around quickly. That was also before 2018 and 2023 to give myself hope on how we'd go after a lot of changes. The Dragons are doing that for next year. It will be interesting to see how they will go. A few of the names they have signed will give their fans some hope.

I know people have jumped to the conclusion that Metcalf has refused to play Cup but I'm more of the opinion that the club told him to take some leave to sort his shit out & now he has a deal in place, meaning there's zero possibility that we have to potentially rehab him beyond October 31st, he'll feature in the comp. Probably not this weekend, but you never know

Haere ra, whenever you go. I'll watch to see if you can save the Dragons asylum. But I absolutely would love to flog you to submission by a gajillion.
