I am starting get Blake Green vibes and thinking good riddance

If you read the press release (bolded by me):

The One New Zealand Warriors have acceded to a request from Luke Metcalf’s management to engage with other NRL clubs regarding his playing future from 2027 and beyond.
“We will not make any further comment on this matter until a further update is provided by Luke and or his management,” said One New Zealand Warriors CEO Cameron George.

This is George pointing the finger at the player and management forcing the club's unwilling hand. Any questions? - go talk to Luke and his manager, not us

Hope he signs a new deal quickly and GTFO of MSS

Man Perth is going to really suck aye?

Vossy on SEN said Perth are scared to spend money, looking only at mid rangers to date. They need a poster boy, someone to get people to watch, he fits the bill IMO.

Gus was in Akl when Metcalf sat on the bench in Sydney a few weeks ago. I don't think the timing aligned, and as he is the junior development top dog who regularly is in NZ I think they are probably off the mark.

Fox are now reporting the Dogs pull out FYI.

Which is what I am afraid of. I think we initially, rightly or wrongly, have overpaid for him and is there a club out there willing to front up similar money for him or will we get stuck with an expensive, disgruntled NSW cup depth player? Surely his manager would have put some feelers out prior to throwing his toys?

Ya I'm team metcalf right now, don't F this up or we're stuck with $1.8M for 2 years of a disgruntled employee. How many times can you F up in a week lol

I think dogs are bluffing otherwise it's a dick move to tell the media so the drags now know they are the only one left instead of a blind best offer competition 🤣 Gus trying to save drags some coins?

Very quiet from the sharks or rabbitohs. Popcorn stuff.
Gould is a savvy operator. Could be a ploy to get the Warriors to pay freight.
It's a pretty untenable situation for us so we need rid of him.

You would think you would have the deal ready in the background before pulling the trigger going for the release. The time it's taking to get it done get's worrying the more it drags on.

I don't believe that the Bears would not be interested in Metcalf for one million dollars.

They have a massive problem with not being able to sign any marquee players. They have a ton of Salary cap space (speculative but likely).

I just assume Metcalf's people have already said no bro he does not want to live in Perth.

If it ain't that, then I don't understand how Perth think they have a case to ask the NRL for this cap exemption and or special third party status (surely declining Metcalf goes against that partition).

It is weird that the Dogs got involved late, rather than lining up a Metcalf visit when he first flew to Australia - but who knows.
