Not shitting on what you said, but weren't they saying that same thing about Katoa - after the phins took the bunnies out?
Yeah they did, but who could argue. Katoa is looking like he’ll be one of the top halves in the coming years producing what he is at his age. Metcalf announced at the beginning of the season that he wanted to announce his arrival as a top halve, and to his credit he’s doing exactly what he said he would

For sure,

I guess my point was that media is all about 'flavour of the week'. Metcalf is definitely upping his game by the week, but basing value off media hype is an empty and fruitless game.

As for the Perth expansion conversation (and to an extent the PNG expansion), I wonder if they'll have similar issues to us in that they are based a fair way away from the cluster of east coast clubs, requiring more travel and further reloaction for families.

I have previously expressed my doubts about a Perth based side given to past failure. Hope Im wrong though.

To me, the bigger threat for Metcalf being lured away would be a Sydney outfit, like the Tigers.

Really that would all hinge on how happy Metcalf is calling NZ home, rather than a 'normal' increase in paycheck. He's enjoying his footy over here, he's got a team tailor made around him and he's got a great coach.

We should pay him what he's worth + the NZ tax, but if he really wants to go - I suspect there wouldn't really be any amount of money that would keep him here.

Yes, I get your point that LM is the star du jour. My only contention is that he, and the Warriors, are now firmly in the conversation after being mostly ignored by the Aussie media for the season so far.

All that attention will only be driving the price up and I hope we pre-empt the inevitable attempts to recruit him away from the club by going all in on him.

I just saw a stat that metcalfs winning percentage at the warriors is 72% that’s pretty crazy for a warriors player- equal to Cameron smith’s record at the storm.
To put it in warrior terms heres some of our better known halves records.
Alexander 56%
Maloney 50%
Johnson 46%
Jones 44%

Small sample size tbf but it would be pretty disappointing to lose him at this stage.

This is his 1st proper hit out too.
Fingers crossed in the coming years he stays injury free cause his ceiling must be high.

If Metcalf had stayed fit in 23 we may have won the title.
interesting idea, my memory of that game was we were at a real athleticism deficit to the broncos, monty, pompey, berry, ford, TMM they all looked like limited tradesman compared to these stars on the other side.

A firing Metcalf would have helped a bit with that, but Tohu and AFB were being overworked due to an infamous four lock/backrower bench, walker, siro, curran and a hobbled jazz - we got to about the right place that year.
