Maybe Dally M is just messing with our cap since we're starting to look like a threat for premiership 🤣
I have to admit this is where my head went to with this when I saw the article. Ends up forcing us to pay him too much and too early, and then he either falls off a cliff or gets injured.

I mean, Metcalf has been decent.... but like... what Twilight Zone episode is this?

Next minute Tigers offer a 10 year 20M deal to Leka 🤣

Its more about what other clubs are willing to pay him IMO.Not what we or the club think.
Just for arguments sake compare him to D. Brown even tho I think the Knights regret the deal already.
Then take into consideration Perth & PNG coming in & they will want a 7 to build a team around.
A junior SOO player who has come thro the Oz system &now playing really well & improving.

Look, it’s simple……

Ask yourself one scenario…….

Would you……
1. Pay Metcalf his million
2. Let him walk
That’s it……..Pick one….

Right now with the available options. And with an expansion coming. It’s an easy choice.

(It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that if he’ll take less, do it. But I feel that’s not the world we live in. We’re going to need to pay)

Also, he might not sign regardless of what we pay. So the earlier the better. So we can plan forward.

Alternative solutions always welcome.

That's not the point.
If we want to keep him we will have to at least match other clubs offers.
If you don't someone will snap him up
You’d have to think there’s dialogue behind the scenes between his management and the club to sort something before November. His management won’t be silly enough not to know the club has some money in their salary cap and his value rising week to week with his performances. I do think his first priority will be to stay with the club but you’re not wrong that money talks and home is home at the end of the day with a young family to consider

Nothing surer Noitall.
Don't know who his manager is but I wouldn't think he is a fw

My intuition is he will sign a multi year extension during bye rounds, his wife was pregnant when Webby gave him the key and I doubt Webby would do that (and Robo to an extend) if his plan was to leave at the end of 2026 if we make him a rockstar

Honestly he owes us a lot of unwritten favors.

Also interesting he suddenly had some legit playmaking skills when he returned from the leg fracture last year, maybe the plan was already in motion then, we just didn’t see it

He’s got chemistry with Capewell too, are they travel roommates? Maybe we need to extend Cape for a year, last year was fitting in, you can see why his teams get to GF or win them

I am feeling confident he will stay on. I don't know if a million dollar contract is what is needed, but to be fair I can't really get a handle on this market and what his value would be. But I don't think we need to be paying overs (whatever that is). My reasoning is that he obviously has the trust of Webster and the coaching staff, but don't underestimate the relationship the other way around and how much trust and respect he has of Webby too. As an athlete you can take the extra coin to move to a new club but that comes with some risk i.e. he may not fit in x teams system, he may not gel as well with that coach or have his support if he gets injured again or form drops etc. Whereas he knows here he has a great coach, one that supports him to the hilt, and a team and club that is building well from the ground up - I would think he would be silly to leave all that he has at his feet here as long as we offer him what his value is.
