There are a lot of valid reasons why Luke Metcalf may want to move back to aussie after his current deal runs out - but you have to think that how much attention/exposure and potential adoration he can get from a one team country must be goddamn appealing.

1.1 mil for a half that would have only played a little over 50 games?

Compared to the rest of the fucking comp lol

Edit: Anyways Frank that wasn't the question I was asking. Get off the fence and answer the question
I think it's more in this hypothetical he's a premiership daily M half who has yet to reach his potential. Not a lot of halves to compare him to if these things do turn out to be true. I wouldn't be entirely happy or disappointed if they even threw Dylan brown money at him in this case. But to be honest if we win a ring Im not sure if there'd be much the club could do directly after to bring me down from that high.

you said IF wins the comp AND the Dally M? Thats not comparable to "the rest of the comp".

In 2023 Hynes signed for 5 years at 1-1.1m. Moses just signed 5 years for 1.3 and he only won the Dally M and that was back in 2019.

Hynes had won a premiership and a Dally M (albeit not in the same team or as a half) and had played about 70 games before going on to get his 1.1 mil top up.

Can you remind me what the general consensus is around Nicho 2 years later?
Over rated, over priced, not worth a mil, not a real half.
You might even say Sharks paid...overs?

Which was my point.

TBH, I don't give a shit and would be happy to pay him that if he took us to the promised land, but to say it wouldn't be considered overs is a bit naive on your part champ

That was 2 years ago. Caps gone up. And if the sharks had signed for 3 instead of 5 they'd be fine. Again this is all contingent on the parameters you set of winning the comp and dallyM. I think thats worth an extra couple hundred k a year.

Assuming we have a fair bit of cap space this year and next with Tohu and Walker suddenly departing? It would seem logical to me to upgrade Metcalfs current contract as part of an extension deal.

Assuming his reported current salary of $500k is correct.

3 year extension @ $1 mil + current contract @ $500k = $4mil
= $800k per year (2025-2029)

Even with crazy money
3 year extension @ $1.25 mil + current contract @$500k = $4.75mil
= $900k per year (2025-2029)

If this is possible it would be beneficial for both parties with Metcalf getting big money and receiving it earlier. Whilst the club would lock in a gun halfback long term for sub $1mil.

If we win the comp and he’s the halfback, and wins the overall Dally M, he’s instantly the best halfback we have ever seen for the warriors

SJ was paid 1M in 2017/18 with inflation that’s 1.3M

Luke’s agent will be asking for Brown and Ponga money, 1 did F all (coincidentally 1.3M too), and the other stole a Dally M and neither won a comp

Bears offered Hughes 1.6M? He hasn’t won a comp for 5 years and is getting up there age wise

It will be market price to pay 1.3M+ and we can negotiate for 1.1M and performance based bonuses that makes up 1.5M, and he’d still be right to say no lol

The best time is to lock him up now around a million and play the good guy to upgrade him if we really win the comp lol

To be fair if we pay him unders and retains him AFTER we win a comp we will be investigated by NRL for brown paper bags

PS Hynes wasn’t the dally m halfback for the storm and he offers more value off field with the PR and magazine shoot than on field clutch performances

Much better articulated than me.
