Yeah he’s still got that arm grabbing problem
Needs to lean in lower and not expose his torso for a fend , stay light on his feet and not reach or plant his foot too early. I know from +20 years experience watching nrl
Exhibit A) NSW cup GF, skip to 50 seconds in

You might have joked about 'watching NRL' but this is exactly why I have always said that you do not have to play a sport to understand it (it helps to understand but sometimes it gets in the way too by giving you cognitive bias based off your league days).
He stands still and ball watches (the toes the toes the toes - plant big toe, little toe and go)
He could improve a lot with boxing, especially skipping but NZ is hardly the country of dancing boxers.
The fastest way to train your feet is to do Ballet lessons eh, those fookers are the Grand Masters of Big toe Kungfu - imagine having the toe strength to go aerial off one toe....wow they are impressive athletes man, I hate ballet but their grace, power, speed, and balance is sick.
Then exactly as you say he does not lead with the shoulder he arm grabs (people put this down to confidence, that is not quite what is going on, it is fear).
Webster got
Ali to make the first tackle of the game this week. We all know that trick-it is a variation on "get your hands on the ball early" and from that little Master stroke by
Webster Ali was engaged in the defence.
But because he is a slack arse, he did not chase the kick off on every set like
Berry - but hey, I am not here to criticise a player that is improving, I am delighted for him overall. I said last week I wanted him to play the first six rounds of NRL this season after how bad he was last week.....
