I agree. And he obviously has the respect of the playing group given how they responded in the games from magic round onwards. Thought there was a fairly strong leadership group then as well.Given it a bit more thought over the last week and have landed on Barney. Not a fan of the lead by actions only silent type
Egan or someone else that plays bigger minutes needs to be vice captain.Would people also want to be moving Egan off of vice captian? And instead putting barney at cap, JFH at vice/co-cap?
Any chance Capewell is in the running for vice captain? Be a good vc option - experienced, 2 x premiership winner, played Origin, plays 80 minsEgan or someone else that plays bigger minutes needs to be vice captain.
Just going by the fact that we've had one till now (not to say its stopping). And i guess its who gets to use the challenge etc if the captain is off the feild?Barney’s the obvious choice.
Can’t see the need for a vice captain- there will be a leadership group.
Especially with Jazz no longer here, we should get better results for challenges.Just going by the fact that we've had one till now (not to say its stopping). And i guess its who gets to use the challenge etc if the captain is off the feild?
Would you alternate them so one replaces the other off the bench? Feel like you’d need one on all the time to have a captain on the field. Wonder if DWZ is in consideration for co captain? Done it for the Kiwis in the pastFish and Barney Co-Captains, no vice.
Rog has had his crack and left early to come home, don’t begrudge him for doing it but also wouldn’t re-enlist the Captaincy following.
You’d like to think one of them is on for most if not all of the game with over-lap, maybe Egan 1st drop in between.Would you alternate them so one replaces the other off the bench? Guess there’s also Capewell to consider in some leadership capacity being a leader and likely an 80 minute player? You’d like to think one of them is on for most if not all of the game with over-lap, maybe Egan 1st drop in between.
I’ve always struggled with the Winger Capt play, like the Paul Bowman Ctr example, too far away from the middle.
Would always prefer a spine Capt over any other including Prop but I can’t see that for us ATM.
A spine Capt, preferably an experienced skilled one, can lead in all facets an ideally changes the game’s momentum on occasion - a game breaker if you will.
There has been a bit of talk about the amount of experience we are losing in Tohu, SJ, AFB. JFH helps balance that out and we still have a huge amount of experience in the team. The leadership group will be strong. Perhaps better without the polarizing SJ and AFB there? Capewell was bought over for his experience and professionalism. Highly regarded at clubs he has played at. Plays 80 minutes. Could have a lot worse picks as VCGuess there’s also Capewell to consider in some leadership capacity being a leader and likely an 80 minute player?
Capewell has spent time with JFH at panthers and been a season now with Barnett to have a rapport with bothThere has been a bit of talk about the amount of experience we are losing in Tohu, SJ, AFB. People forget the insane amount of head knocks these guys took. Plus they weren't Rhodes Scholars to begin with.A perfect example of just because you may have played the game doesn't mean you know what you are talking about.
Yup, not just Tony Kemp, there are a few others that covers tooPeople forget the insane amount of head knocks these guys took. Plus they weren't Rhodes Scholars to begin with.
I may be wrong, but from memory we havent had an official leadership group under Webster. His belief is that it detracts from leadership qualities of those outside the group and allows them to sit back and not add anything.
My thoughts on captain is that its Barnett. He's grown into the role with the club and already has that rapport with the boys. JFH will still lead by his actions regardless.
