He is a bit of an unknown in the warriors system. We do not know if he was brought in to take a starting spot or provide depth/cover. How has he been performing behind closed doors? Has he been impressing the club over the other halves options at the club? Hard to rate him when he hasnt played for the team yet, and given us any output in Warriors colours especially in how the club plays him.

TMM we have seen enough. He struggles to play 5/8 and often goes missing and you want to distract him from dreaming about catching fish mid game to make him the main playmaker.
There is ample games playing 6 and 7 for the Titans to see how he plays. I'm sure he hasn't miraculously morphed in to SJ by pulling on a Warriors jersey.

I agree with you about TMM at 6. He should be 7. We have seen last season he is more than capable of reeling in the tries, try assists, line breaks and kibe break assists to get us the wins. Even with makeshift teams.

What's with assertion TMM is not here next year?

He could play well and earn a multi year contract, a 1 year deal or be released.

None of know - to say otherwise is delulu.
Yup anything can happen. But based on the current known situation he is unsigned after this year.

just an annoyed LM..
Why? He has just been part of a winning team and played finals for the first time. And picked up DalyM 5/8
at's not going to happen as LM is 7.

My dream is that LM absolutely kills it at 7 in his first year, but thats miracle territory.
You put previously that LM 6 and TB 7 gives us the best chance?

He very clearly has his heart set on being a top 7. Hence Im still hoping for that miracle to happen
I didn't pick you for a hope and miracle type guy. Look, I think we all want whatever player that is in whatever position to go good and for us to perform well, win games, get to the finals. I'm just not seeing it with Metcalf at 7 regardless of how much he might want it in his heart. I'm sure Kosi wants to be a winger. LM is a very good 6 and could be a hell of a player there.

How easy is it for a player to switch from #6 to #7? It appears Metcalf hasn't done much to date in that particular role.

According to RLP Metcalf as a #7:
  • 3 wins from 12 appearances
  • 1 NRL game - vs Raiders Round 1, 2025
  • 8 games in NSW Cup from 2021-2024 (2 with the Warriors)
  • 3 Pre-season NRL games
  • (37 games at Five-eighth)
TMM in comparison at #7:
  • 11 wins from 18 appearances
  • 9 NRL games
  • 8 games in NSW Cup from 2016-2024 (3 with the Warriors)
  • 1 Pre-season NRL game
  • (71 games at Five-eighth)
There's also now Tanah Boyd to consider at #7:
  • 15 wins from 49 appearances
  • 31 NRL games
  • 14 games in QLD Cup from 2019-2022
  • 3 Pre-season NRL games
  • (24 games at Five-eighth)
It's hard to say what the best half combo is for 2025, but if you're aiming to build for the future is it better for Metcalf to spend some time in reserve grade to work on his game and confidence in the #7 jersey?

Thinking about this I'm finding it a bit hypocritical from the coaches/selectors where they will usually drip feed most young/inexperienced players into the squad and game - especially when your halfback controlling the game is a way more influential player than a bench forward.

The club seems hell bent on moulding Metcalf into a game controlling half.

We know that TMM absolutely sucks playing in an off-ball 6 role but played very well last year as a game manager 7.

So you can't really have both Metcalf and TMM in the halves together based on what the club is trying to do.

i don’t know if it SHOULD but i think it WILL be Chanel by the mid way point of the season.
i reckon this environment will bring the best out of him and his energy and the way he pumps up those around him will be huge.

there’s a reason he gets picked for samoa and has been doing preseasons with first grade since he was 17. we just haven’t seen it in full yet, maybe?

plus high % goal kicker, takes pressure off SJ.
plus left foot in game kicker compliments and takes pressure off SJ.

he’s ticking some boxes there i’d say.
