The Warriors would sever all ties with their Auckland heritage and adopt a new black and grey colour to better reflect the national name of the new club.

After the success of the club in the previous season making the Grand Final this jersey was sold by the tens of thousands and until 2012 was the most sold jersey in the clubs history.

There was no distinction between the on field jerseys and retail replicas except for the heat pressed number on the back of the match worn jerseys.

Using the inverse colours of the home jersey the 2003 away was the first proper away jersey since the 1995 season.

As with the home jersey this one was mass produced and is widely available.

2003 NZ Warriors Alternate Jersey

2003 alternate jersey front.jpg

Known affectionately in the collector scene as the 2003 hoops jersey these were released in a very limited run. No idea on actual numbers but its scarcity would suggest a drop of no more than 100 at the most.

This jersey was only worn once during the 2003 season in the Round 13 clash against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks at Mt Smart Stadium where the Warriors triumphed 23-6.

Very difficult jersey to attain just as a replica with match worn jerseys being next to impossible.

Team list for that Sharks game is as below if you are lucky enough to own a match worn example of this jersey.

1. Brent WEBB
2. Henry FA'AFILI
3. Vinnie ANDERSON
4. Vince MELLARS
5. Francis MELI
6. Motu TONY
7. Stacey JONES
8. Jerry SEUSEU
9. Monty BETHAM
10. Mark TOOKEY
11. Logan SWANN
12. Wairangi KOOPU
18. Tevita LEO-LATU

13. Sione FAUMUINA
15. Iafeta PALEA'AESINA

2004-05 home jersey 1.jpg

These jerseys were basically the 2003 jersey but with an altered Lion Red League logo that was designed by Steve Russell for Proud Design that streamlined all logos of Lion Reds sporting interests.

Interestingly the 2004 jerseys are the only ones to be used in consecutive seasons without a single alteration from the previous season.

The players jerseys were the first jerseys in the clubs history to have a fitted design.

In 2005 the home jersey was used to create a testimonial jersey for Stacey Jones which was limited to 200 jerseys. All were signed by Stacey with a message.

Not a lot to add to this profile apart from what has been mentioned in the 2003 away jersey. They are exactly the same with the exception of the new Lion Red League logo on the sleeve. This jersey was used for both the 2004 and 2005 seasons.

The 2004 and 2005 alternate jersey was slightly altered from the 2003 'hoops' jersey version with the hoop bands being thinner. Both versions had 4 bands running across them.

These jerseys were never sold to the general public although several had a number 7 put on the back and were given to select fans such as corporate box owners. These jerseys are therefore exceedingly difficult to obtain. I would be surprised if there was more than 40-50 ever made with most being match worn examples.

This jersey was worn during two rather infamous matches for the club. The first time was against the Roosters in 2004 when Paul Atkin who was on debut got absolutely smashed by Adrian Morley in his first two touches of the ball. The second was in 2005 against the Roosters again when Awen Guttenbeil destroyed Ned Catic in a brutal tackle that knocked Ned out.

Other times the jersey was worn was during both the Warriors trials in 2005.

2005 10th anniversary 1.jpg

The clubs very first anniversary jersey this was worn during the Round 16 clash against the Brisbane Broncos to mark the 10th anniversary since our inaugural game in 1995.

In a game that the Warriors won 30-18 at Mt Smart Stadium this game is mostly remembered as the debut game for Simon Mannering who played at centre inside Manu Vatuvei.

These jerseys were made in limited numbers of around 100 with the bulk of them being used as prizes for a competition that major sponsors Vodafone held in the lead up to this match.
