2012 Warriors home jersey 5.webp

2012 would see the team in a new sleek design and bringing back the chevrons. The black and white of New Zealand remained and red was added to compliment the Vodafone logo.

Players jerseys were the same as the retail versions with the exception of a number on the back. The number had hundreds of little pin hole perforations.

2012 Warriors heritage jersey 8.webp

Canterbury of New Zealand released the exclusive Vodafone Warriors heritage jersey at the Vodafone Warriors Season Launch at SkyCity Auckland on 28th February 2012.

Te Toki Pounamu is the name specially chosen for the 2012 Heritage Jersey, literally meaning ‘The Greenstone Adze’ specifically designed with the club, supporters and players in mind.

The Pounamu (Greenstone) is renowned as a precious stone worn by many to connect to their whenua (land) and their whānau (family). The Toki (Adze) is a weapon used for both ceremonial and functional purposes. Consisting of a hard wood handle and greenstone blade attached to it, a Toki is carried by those who possess mana (standing) and kaha (strength) often qualities found in toa (warriors).

Steeped in the important foundations of whānau and whenua (family and land) the modified Māori axiom specifically altered to accompany the jersey is “Ma te whānau, ma te whenua, mate ai te toa” Which translated means ‘For land and family, the warrior will do his all’.

Colin Gibson, Canterbury of New Zealand Marketing and Sponsorship Manager said, “Canterbury of New Zealand feels very privileged to have worked with designer Dave Burke in the formation of this one-off jersey, with guidance from kaumatua and cultural advisor Luke Crawford.”

“The concept behind the design and the deeper meaning it represents for players, the club and supporters make us extremely proud to be part of the Vodafone Warriors Culture”.

The jersey was sold with a small booklet explaining the design and meaning behind the jersey. The reads as follows:

Te Toki Pounamu- The Jersey

Te Toki Pounamu literally means "The Greenstone Adze" and is a name specially chosen for the 2012 Heritage Jersey. Pounamu (Greenstone) is a precious stone worn by many to connect to their whenua (land) and their whānau (family).

Toki (Adze) is a weapon for both ceremonial and functional use. With hard wood handle and greenstone blade attached it is carried by those who possess mana (standing) and kaha (strength) often qualities found in toa (warriors).

"Te Toki Pounamu" is the Vodafone Warriors celebratory and commemorative jersey designed specifically with the club, supporters and players in mind. It has at its foundations the two important notions of whanau and whenua, family and land. The modified Maori axiom specifically altered to accompany this jersey is "Ma te whánau, ma te whenua, mate ai te toa" which translated means "For land and family, the warrior will do his all"

"Ma te whanau" There are many reasons one might go to battle but sitting at the heart of it all is family. Family give purpose and support to the cause both in victory and defeat. The concept of whanau encapsulates the club and its players, administrators and supporters. It is the whānau that the individual wearing this jersey connects to. For whānau the warrior must be willing to give his all.

"Ma te whenua" speaks of that piece of land the Vodafone Warriors are tasked with defending during a game and the opposition half they are tasked with taking. The prized piece of whenua is the in goal area on attack and in defence. Whenua also speaks to the home ground of the Vodafone Warriors and Aotearoa New Zealand. This is where the
Vodafone Warriors draw their constituency and sense of belonging from. For whenua the warrior must be prepared to give his all.

"Mate ai te toa" is a powerful statement of commitment, dedication and loyalty to the Vodafone Warriors whanau and whenua, its people and its place in this competition and land.

Te Toki Pounamu is a jersey which connects the wearer to the club, the team, the players and Aotearoa New Zealand. It is a statement of strength and courage in the face of all adversity and in the quest for victory and glory for whánau and whenua.

Te Whakamārama - Explanation

The toki of old were both functional and ceremonial in purpose. Painstakingly fashioned with an ornate hardwood handle and sharpened blade of pounamu (greenstone).

○ functionally utilised to dispatch notable combatants' during conflicts,

○ ceremonially carried as a symbol of leadership, power and prowess.

So we liken the wearer to the hardwood handle and the jersey itself to the pounamu blade. Together they serve to satisfy both the functional and ceremonial aspects and purpose of the toki pounamu in that opponents will be suitably dispatched in a manner and style befitting a noble and true warrior.

"He ope taua, He ope toa" A warrior nation!!

PLAYERS JERSEY - Same as the official replica but tapered and a white number on the back. Number had small pin holes on it all over. Assuming that was to improve the breathability of the jersey.

2012 Warriors Women in League 7.webp
For the first time in the clubs history the Warriors produced and wore a Women In League jersey. Worn in Round 17 against the Cowboys. This was the only game this jersey was worn.

Part of the paintball set from this season this jersey is sometimes referred to as pink paintball.

Players jerseys were the same as the official replica but tapered and a white number on the back. Number had small pin holes on it all over. Assuming that was to improve the breathability of the jersey. There was a set made up for training that had the number straight on to a back while the players jersey had a black square sublimated with the number placed inside that...

2012 Warriors training jersey 5.webp

Known as the green paintball jersey. This was worn during the Warriors preseason trials against the Titans at North Harbour Stadium, South Sydney Rabbitohs at Coffs Harbour and Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles in Whangarei.

After the trials the jerseys were used as training jerseys by the team.

Players jerseys are the same as the official replica but with a taper and a white number on the back. These jersey were used as a training jerseys for 3 years. Most have been well washed and show signs of age.

With no restrictions on the U20 jersey CCC produced a completely new design. The home was red with a multi-coloured Warriors logo and 12 in Roman numerals on it.

These jerseys werent a popular design and the jerseys were still for sale 2 years after the jerseys were released.

Used by the U20 team for their trial games. After that they were used for the U20 open trial games, preseason games in 2013 (against Howick Hornets) and used by the Warriors Development teams right up until 2016.

These jerseys were never issued for general public sale although a few examples were sold at the CCC end of year sale. Very rare jersey.

Part of the paintball set this jersey is often called blue paintball...

A simple continuation of the previous years design but with the new NRL logo which had a controversial new face lift. The new green and yellow did not suit nor bear any relevance the Warriors jerseys.

The players jerseys would see the introduction of GPS pockets for the first time in the clubs history. The numbers on the back were no longer perforated but remained heat pressed as previous seasons...

100% polyester Sublimate Pique mesh, 245gsm. Contemporary Fit Rugby jersey, featuring the new "loop 21" neck design. Contrasting tape detail. CCC embroidered logo - centre front, Warriors embroidered logo on left chest, NRL Premiership embroidered logo on right chest. Vodafone logo - centre front, Vodafone logo - upper centre back, Skycity lower centre back, Lion Red logos on each sleeve. All in sublimate print.

The jersey takes the design element from the 2002 jersey where the WARRIORS made their first grand final appearance. The Flax (harekeke) design represents voyaging, sailing (all of the first peoples initially arriving in New Zealand by sea), navigation and most importantly it represents being bound tightly together - each notch being as important as the other, connections, strength, unity and holding fast.

2013 NZ Warriors Women In League

2013 Warriors Women in League Jersey 8.webp

As part of the NRL's Women in League Round the Warriors wore a pink jersey that was specifically tailored towards female fans. The Women in League was actually in Round 10 but the Warriors couldnt wear their jersey as they were playing the Penrith Panthers at home who were wearing theirs (That being the game where the Panthers gave the Warriors their largest loss 62-6). Instead the Warriors would wear their Women in League jersey the following Round at Mt Smart against the Newcastle Knights. This would be the only time this jersey was worn...

This jersey was worn during the Warriors match at Westpac Stadium in Wellington. The design was based off a historical Wellington League Jersey hence the sublimated embroidered upper chest area and tie up collar.

The design for this jersey was accidentally leaked online by a supplier. At the time it wasnt known whether the jersey was actually going to go into production. After a lot of demand CCC announced that the jersey would be made available to the public and it went on to become one of its top sellers for the year.

The Wellington Jersey was worn only once at the Caketin, Wellington against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs during their Round 9 loss. Below is the player list for that game...

1 Glen FISIIAHI
2 Bill TUPOU
3 Ben HENRY
18 Carlos TUIMAVAVE
5 Manu VATUVEI
6 Thomas LEULUAI
7 Shaun JOHNSON

One of two training jerseys sold in 2013 for the Warriors. Both completely contrasting colourways for opposed training sessions. This jersey was officially called the Inferno.

Worn twice during the clubs 2013 trail games against the Gold Coast Titans at Pizzey Park, Burleigh Heads and the Penrith Panthers at Waikato Stadium, Hamilton...

One of two training jerseys sold in 2013 for the Warriors. Both completely contrasting colourways for opposed training sessions. This jersey was officially called the Subzero. This jersey was only sold exclusively through Rebel Sport New Zealand stores. They were stocked in two lots of approximately 300 and both sold out in the main sizes quickly.

The Subzero was only match worn once during the 23rd February 2013 trial against the Brisbane Broncos at Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin. After that it was worn extensively during the teams training sessions for at least 3 more years...

Called the 'Enforcer' by the Warriors and CCC this jersey was widely known as the Terminator by most fans.

Designed to appeal to children this jersey was a huge success. Both Children's and adult sizes sold well.

The club copped some flak for the size of the Vodafone logo. Even more astounding was when CCC confirmed that the logo was originally bigger but Vodafone themselves asked for it to be reduced.

First players jerseys had a red number on the back. Not sure why but these numbers would be replaced by white numbers. I believe it was an issue with visibility.

The other variation is the sleeve sponsor. Some have TNT and the others have Holden. The Holden patch that was sewn on also came in dark grey and white.

The U20 Home jersey, with a white Holden patch on the sleeve, was also worn during the teams Grand Final loss to the Panthers. The key difference was the NRL issued NYC Grand Final badge...

The away counterpart to the Enforcer this jersey was team issued only and not available for general sale.

All jerseys had blank sleeves and sleeve sponsors had patches seen on them featuring the Holden sponsorship...

The NRL would once again change the NRL logo but this one would only effect the Warriors. The club was given a special black and silver badge to reflect the teams origins while the other Australian clubs kept the green and gold logo.

The home jersey would remain exactly the same as the previous years jersey otherwise.

Players jerseys were the same as the replicas but had a tapered fit, GPS pocket and a white heat pressed number on the back...
