Has open borders, a key tenant of neoliberalism, been a success or as Trump puts it, a failure?

Mass immigration has been an experiment that pretty universally voters don’t want but is almost impossible to vote a stop to..

New Zealand wasn’t much better….. over 10,000 returning white veterans were offered heavily discounted farmland here after WW2, only 36 veterans from the māori Battalion received farmland. And most of that was in the worst areas available.

The treatment of one of our best known units, both during and after the war, is absolutely shocking.
 
If you look at somewhere like the UK, the impact in the last 30 years of mass immigration has made the larger cities worse not better in many ways.
It's difficult to get right but also I have never heard anyone with a decent plan around what they want to achieve around migration. It's always just knee jerk reactions to a current need or problem.

That is so unfortunate. I am sorry to hear that but I am glad they are addressing the concern. A leading Harvard scientist came to that conclusion with others, so it has to come out. There are unfortunate ramifications but I believe trying to stop or at least reduce autism cases is so important that it needs to be vocalised publicly far and wide for the well being of children and families all over, as I am sure you do.

It is much easier to assist nations where they are. If you bring in huge numbers of immigrants you tank your own country financially (look at Chicago and NY, they are a mess. Successful people who are paying large amount of taxes leave and it increases the spiral) they then lose the ability to help other countries. Mass unvetted migration is stupidity at its highest order. You have to be measured, selective and smart. Include skilled workers, people that will enrich the communities and culture as well as manageable amounts of asylum seekers and refugees. Mass migration is nuts! For the US it was mass unvetted migration, which involved drugs, sex traffickers, the exploitation of children, the straining of the cultural values and ties of a country. I support vetted legal migration and I support his view and am glad that he is bold enough to say. It's also screwing Europe and all those leaders are too scared? To do anything about it? We don't suffer this issue in NZ so it's hard to quantify but I am telling you Europe is in a bad space. There will be a reaction or street wars, which looks like its already starting.

I am not sure if you are aware that there are some NZ māori and Pacific Islanders and other minorities that have found it increasingly difficult to get state homes or government support. There is resentment in some of those communities even in NZ because as we increase our immigration numbers our infrastructure struggles to cope. This includes hospitals, policing etc. It is just reality. Then you want to ensure you have social cohesion, smart measured migration is important for all, especially our communities who need help.

This is not racism but common sense in my mind.

Have you read the abstract from that one study?

It is titled 'may' be linked.

It also recommends the continued judicious use of Paracetamol during pregnancy under medical oversight because the study acknowledges that 1) the causal link was found in prolonged use of more than four weeks 2) the study acknowledges that untreated fever or pain during pregnancy is dangerous to the foetus.

So the Authors themselves acknowledge that more research is needed to confirm the studies findings. By the way this study was conducted by taking the stats from other studies and inferring a link (which is fine but it is not a direct finding from independent research, rather a statistical analysis of data which may or may not indicate a link at all).

Lastly the lead Author Baccarelli acknowledges that he has served as an expert witness in Acetaminophen (Paracetomol, same thing) court cases where plaintifs are suing the Drug companies. So saying he admits he has a vested interest in finding these claims to be accurate (Expert witnesses negotiate payment with lawyers in the States, unlike NZ where it is carefully arbitrated based off a hourly rates and classes).

In conclusion, it was best to leave this topic to the experts and let the relevant agencies advise the medical profession directly - rather than allow this dangerous politicization of potential half truths which could do more harm than good.

I get the angst about wanting to know the risks by the public, but there is a reason a GP prescribes you pills that are often linked to literally dozens of risks to patients without telling you all of them.....you would be in your Doctors office for hours and no one would ever take any medicine.

Have you read the side effect profile of every drug you have ever been prescribed (it is screeds long and often times words like cancer risk or heart attack stroke etc are quite common).

Bottom line, I would rather have a kid with autism than a dead kid.
