I am not sure if you are aware that there are some NZ Maori and Pacific Islanders and other minorities that have found it increasingly difficult to get state homes or government support. There is resentment in some of those communities even in NZ because as we increase our immigration numbers our infrastructure struggles to cope. This includes hospitals, policing etc. It is just reality. Then you want to ensure you have social cohesion, smart measured migration is important for all, especially our communities who need help.

This is not racism but common sense in my mind.

Sweden is a good example of what happens when you bring in big numbers of immigrants in a short time frame.

It's difficult to get right but also I have never heard anyone with a decent plan around what they want to achieve around migration. It's always just knee jerk reactions to a current need or problem.

Mate, I'm from London and still have family there - its a much better place now than it was in the 1970s, largely due to immigration.

Fuck knows what Trump was on about.

And - if you know you're history - there's no people alive today with original British Islands DNA, there are no descendants of those people anywhere in the world.

Not living there, I can only assume the reports of the borders being too lax in recent years are legitimate, but this is also a country proud of its roots as being built on immigrants. I’m sure argument would be that if they’re documented that they’re welcome to stay, but sometimes there’s more to the story with the immigrant sponsored for work and due to no fault of their own lose that sponsorship and work and are in a situation where they’re hiding and looking for the next opportunity. Many generally go there for the opportunity to work and make something for themselves

Why the remedial work in Christchurch is going to be huge for the people that were brought here to rebuild after the earthquake, particularly Irish builders. Often why our wages are low, because of competing against people willing to do the job for so much less. From knowing people that are timber merchants in South Auckland at one branch I know of, Asian builders are by far buying the most

Like any country there needs to be a process and a legal method of immigration. And countries, I think, have a right to manage that process in the best interests of the country.

Times change. Where once there was land and resources available for everyone, now we face resource limitations and need to manage our populations to live sustainable both economically and environmentally.

The problem seems to be western countries are limiting their populations to try to live within their means. Poorer countries have massive unsustainable population explosions and then the people want to go to the better managed countries instead of being part of the solution in their own countries.

Yeah I can agree with that but I do find masked people taking people off the streets as troublesome and not a fan of the direction that could potentially take. Right from his initial run there seems like there’s been a deliberate attempt to vilify immigrants when he was labelling that caravan moving as rapists and murderers. Just like most things there’s some plausibility in what he says, but the method in the ways of combating it are often concerning

There still is land and resources available for everyone, the difference now is that money is the overwhelming driver and you can buy your way into anywhere you like if you have the means. We’re being asked to live within our means when our governments set the rules and our lives are conducted by what they say and where they allocate money. Our infrastructure is derelict because maintenance isn’t a flashy building that you can put your name on or something to the effect

I've been to London and New York this year and both have had massive upswings in the last 10 years.

Where did you go?
I have been to both Chicago and NY in recent times as well as Paris and if you turn down the wrong st you will find out. The cities try token up appearances however the it is getting more and more difficult.
 
Who takes medical advice from Trump (or social media commentators for that matter). Talk to your own doctor if you are pregnant.

I’ve a family member who is non verbal and on the spectrum and anything anyone can do to research, go for it! Somethings making cases rise.

I was in New York and London in July - they were perfectly normal.
Lived in London in 1999. Visited every few years - it's improving. The biggest difference is everyone uses the cycle paths.

The issue with the normal citizens in those cities have are gentrification and cost of living. Not immigrants running wild.

If you turn down the wrong street in any city "you will find out" that's nothing new.
It's not getting more and more difficult at all - compare NY of the 70s and 80s to present time and it's a very very stark improvement.

People arent comparing to the peak of the 80s/90s though. They are comparing it to the last 5-10 years. Crime has been rising since 2020. (Very hard to get 24-25 data)
