Yeah, sadly (and very cleverly on the part of an exceptionally long and deep long game) large parts of the western world are heading the way that gen x and boomer's parents would very easily recognise and would be telling us all to wake the fuck up and organise to stop this descent into authoritarian fascism.
My own mother would recognise this in an instant having lived through world war two.
Plus honestly? What's being called the left, really isn't in old money. It's generally a manufactured part of the culture war. There is no old school left now, at least not in terms of the current context, there is only the mythical left generated by those (mostly on the right ) sowing disinformation and bolstering a fake culture war.
What's considered left and far left is actually old fashioned centrism, and journalism that does an honest job.

Yeah good call Noitall. At first it was all nudge nudge and jokes, I have an old friend who supports him, but now? Yeesh....and I guess that's what we'll need to figure out to maintain social cohesion of some kind.

Only people interested in politics care. There are no big hidden agenda on the left or right, but both sides openly have values and ideals that they believe in and work towards. They use lots of labels for the other side but they really are just trying to shift what’s perceived as ‘normal’.
There is no war; just a battle of ideas that’s been here since forever. After WW2 there was a Cold War for 50 years as a battle of idiologies. There’s constant religious based battles of morals and ideas. Woke wars and identity politics is just trying to define what’s ‘normal’.
Just like when Trump was last in, the world won’t implode and fall apart. Only politically minded people really care.

It's like Israel-Hamas. That's cooled down now but one day someone in Hamas might decide to start up another recruitment drive by lobbing a few missiles it Israel. Israel, true to form, will strike with their own missiles etc giving Hamas free publicity and dead civilians on TV and so Hamas get more recruits and then theres more peace talks and the fighting stops etc. Until the next time...
Not saying I particularly like it, but I think the world's being a bit more honest with itself and giving up the old We Are One/Working class united against the bosses type mindhive thinking/pretense. We are different. We care about ourselves and people like us first. Let's stop pretending otherwise.
Disagree mate. We're drowning in disinformation and concerted efforts in the last 15 years to break down community and peaceful cooperation. This is deliberate and it's worked.
