what should be a totally neutral and law focused organisation, there to protect and serve.
Not sure thats possible. Institutions like Police are thousands of years old in concept, and in NZs case 139 years in practice. These things are like living organisms with a large part of their focus being survival. To lead these organisations you have to be a part of them and represent its values for so long you become it.

Very disturbingly, and quietly, this has passed it's third reading - The ACT bill intended to give corporates power and preference over ordinary New Zealanders even more than they have now.

I think of the Catholic church as an international pedo ring thanks to the media, are they wrong?
Certainly provided a platform for those predators - you could argue unwillingly however there was obviously the coverups. But 1.4b catholics globally would suggest they were a tiny fraction of the overall church. I think let’s leave it there, no need to give the forums resident nut job a platform for further dribble.

Meanwhile privatisation gets public welfare
What’s your thoughts on Kohonga Reo?

Is there a place for non mainstream schooling due to culture, religion, special needs, troubled youth, etc? Or should we rigidly believe one size fit all despite the obvious failings at the fringe?

The privatisation argument could be flipped to why should people that engage in independent non mainstream education have to pay tax for the public system? Surely their tax can be used for their own education via ‘other’ means like the Kohonga Reo trusts.

Even home schoolers get govt funding.

But that’s the image the media are trying to present to the morons out there that believe everything they read. I’ve met a few Opus Dei people & they are completely normal.
Theres also these other morons out there that bitch and moan about the media constantly.

Do you think the article might be drawing the reader to make their own conclusions on why the government is funding a charter school for a niche brand of Catholicism... when the local community is already served by two other Catholic Schools nearby by & the government are preaching austerity?
