Personally, I think Labour is far better at post-election negotiations than National and they've learnt to only enter a coalition with parties very close to their policies and have "confidence and supply" (C&S) agreements with those too far away from them.

I can see Labour having a coalition with the Greens (but not allowing the coalition agreement to include things too far "to the left") and only having a C&S agreement with the māori Party... to distance themselves from the more extreme policies of the māori Party. I can't see them entering into a coalition with both and let the two minor parties dictate as much as National did at the last election with NZ First and ACT.

Famous last words, but I can't see Winston getting into bed with Labour. I think the nature of his policies and his voter base these days is incompatible with Labour and whoever else would be in a Labour coalition. Identity politics, big government, primary industries etc. His party is much less central than in previous years.

I think he is a much more natural fit with National. Luxon seems to give him and his party plenty of leeway and respect.

I guess that leaves Seymour in the cuck chair

Winston does enjoy Luxon’s leadership I think too because it’s non existent. He’s not from a political world so he lets the politicians do their thing being the coalition leaders and national hierarchy while he takes a backseat as the elite business man he sold himself as, not sure if you heard but he used to be a ceo of a big company. I think this too now is starting to work against him with the country feeling like it’s lacking a leader and polls show that with Hipkins leading him in preferred pm and seemingly having to do nothing to be there in the polls. Another leader with another style could change things completely

I read an article that blamed societies current issues on double incomes.

It has allowed house prices to double as increasing income stretched prices to the maximum income could allow. It’s meat all the increase income has gone to simply servicing huge house prices.

The result: if we still had single incomes house prices would be halved because that’s all the market could afford.

We would have 35 hours of disposable time not working to pay for the exact same house.

The double working has resulted in childcare costs, more petrol costs, more stress, less time with kids around their parents, etc.

The only winners have been the govt with a massive increase in tax.

Based on this, we would have been better as a society with only a single income earner per household.

Can’t critique it really and a fascinating example of how we’re working twice as hard and are no better off (essentially that second person is working for nothing).

It did untold damage in so many ways. But when you see the stat that woman make up 85% of consumer spending, you see why it had to happen.

That’s why I’ve never brought into this left and right bullshit because most can’t be put into one with altering views over different things in society and in life but very little do I see the centre referred to anymore and there seems a willingness to shift to either side of the political divide

Well, yes, and the last 10 years has seen the ascendency of political and social movements that can best be described nicely as fitting into the right and far right of the old political spectrum. And highly morally corrupt too.
