Govt should be helping smooth the boom bust cycle in such a critical sector. They have the mechanisms to do it and we need the housing/infrastructure and to retain the workforce.
I think that’s their intention with the fast tracking program. Example - the Tauranga wharf extension which completely stalled under the previous government who were more concerned with appeasing local iwi chasing further payouts than addressing critical NZ infrastructure bottlenecks.

Didn't this government halt a number of projects that amplified the recession and see increases in skilled people heading overseas?
I think that’s why they’re seeing the polling they are. The wastage over such cancelled projects has been significant and all their criticisms come across as hypocrisy. Think voters are considering what’s worse, borrowing or wasting

I think Wiz is looking at this from 'it's good for me' perspective. Tourism, housing - For all his chat about the need for productivity gains, he's in the low wage, low-productivity, rentier business. Crowing endlessly! Lol.

And the big 3 - rural sector, tourism and housing ARE the New Zealand economy that supports you all.

Ps I’m very efficient and purposefully operate where my turnover per employee (GDP per person) is substantial 😉

Whatever housing optimism you speak of must have completely bypassed Fletcher Building based on what they were seeing… although seriously would anyone be that surprised?
I was saying to Mike I have been active in the property market and 3 places I put offers on were multi listing scenarios, which was unheard of last year. Anecdotally, things are picking up with the lower interest rates.

It will take a while to flow through but demand will flow through to price rises and then new builds.

Green shoots (I’m the canary).

Yeah look that prob makes sense. Retirement sector were calling out increased sales. Will take a while for new residential builds to pick up however.

However, we need to stop relying on the housing market as the dominant form of economic engine. RIGHT????

ACT going hard right embracing misogyny and full throttle culture war Trump

This is the right. This is who they are.

The Act Party website and social media has to be run by a bunch of teenage boys.
The tone of both is dreadful for a political party.

Trading houses amongst ourselves is not a healthy economy. It's no wonder we are in the position we are, we have braindead economics.

As healthy as just creating more money out of thin air to pay for infrastructure 🤣

Nah, I’ve started 11 businesses in 5 different industries over the years.

Entrepreneurship will make NZ’s economy great again. Like it or not, the wealth generated from property funds businesses in lots of cases.

Some of those points might have merit regarding terrible male stats in crime and suicide, but it does look like ACT are engaging in the same divisive culture wars they accuse others of, albeit disguised as some sort of pushback. My 2c.

Mate….. I’m old enough to remember when 4c would buy a pint of milk and 2c a bag of mixed lollies at the dairy.
"The retail price of a pint of milk doubled in February 1976 to 8 cents from 4 cents." Stats NZ.

I doubted you, but your memory's correct old fella. 100% inflation that year, must have been a milk shock. Poor old Bruce would have lost half his girlfriends, I mean customers.
