That's why Charlie Mungers comments are so insightful. Its primarily talking about the markets but its about deeper human psychology. If you incentivise the input, you can guarantee the output. I.E if you make it fashionable and financially rewarding to have ADD/ADHD kids; guess what's going to happen to the diagnosis rate?

Surely someone either has ADHD or not, getting a specialist to diagnose it so they qualify for learning aids etc seems like a good idea, but I haven't seen the evidence for all this rorting by companies providing the services. Austism spectrum seems to be the biggest diagnosis now, what are they getting out of it, free laptops or something?

Generally agree with him, but I thought Working For Families was supposed to incentivise working since you only qualify for it with a job, it bumped basic wages up over the rate of the dole.

My guy, you cant be that naive.. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders is widely available online. Probably 75% of is is nonfalsifiable. i.e you cant test for it. You could read the diagnostic criteria for depression, present those symptoms to 10 drs and 9 will diagnosis and prescribe.

Plus the diagnostic criteria for autism is piss weak

• Persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction
• Restricted, repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities, as manifested by at least two of the following

not so long ago autism looked like a fat man child with big headphones like that dude in that movie with what’s her name with the jizz in her hair.

now it’s anyone and apparently mostly hot quirky bookworm babes with massive cans who fuck like demons but are the tiniest bit weird.

they also put the whole spectrum into one giant pool so there’s no asbergers now. it’s all just ASD.

Highly doubt any of that comes up at medical school marv, that's just social media tropes. I know a few austists, might even be one myself if it had been invented in my day. Traditionally they turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with life. Know one Fetal Achohol kid, he's fucked mate, he'll never be able to support himself.

my wife’s family are a well known family in the medical field down this end of the north island. they deal with this stuff.

I am sure some are rorting it but there is definitely an autism pandemic. My son has special needs ( not autism ) and does special Olympics, the majority 80%+ have autism or something similar, I can tell you none of them are faking it, some that I would say can't compete in a mainstream team don't pass the qualification for Special Olympics so they must be able to test for it.
Anyway my point is really that I don't remember any kids like this when I was at school, now autism is so common. What is causing it?
