📝 Summary:

The thread centers on New Zealand's upcoming election, primarily debating the economic management and policy differences between the center-left Labour government and center-right National/ACT opposition. Key criticisms target Labour's fiscal stewardship, citing ballooning government expenditure #7#272, housing unaffordability, and unfulfilled promises like KiwiBuild and dental care expansion #16#12. A user #7 highlighted Labour's annual 9% spending growth versus 1.5% under previous governments, arguing this fueled inflation. National's tax-cut policy faced scrutiny over funding gaps and legality, with user #215 questioning Luxon's reliance on "trust me" assurances.
Leadership competence emerged as a critical theme, particularly in later posts. Luxon drew heavy criticism after a contentious interview where he struggled to defend policy details #194#199#211, while Willis faced backlash for her economic credentials. Hipkins garnered fleeting praise for articulation but was ultimately seen as representing poor governmental outcomes #45#119. A trusted user #308 presented expert economic analysis contradicting Treasury optimism. Infrastructure issues—like Wellington's water crisis and the dental school staffing shortage—were cited as examples of systemic mismanagement #235#12. Notable policy debates included road-user charges for EVs #220, immigration impacts on rents #299, and coalition scenarios involving NZ First #182#258. Early fringe discussions on candidates' rugby allegiances gave way to substantive policy critiques, culminating in grim Treasury forecasts discussed in posts #271#304#308. User #168 also revealed concerns about Labour rushing regulatory changes to entrench policies pre-election.

Quite possibly a big misunderstanding but seems like a massive own goal by the Greens on a number of fronts. One being the guy deleting 50+ posts - nothing to see here. Two, not being able to articulately explain the misunderstanding, the meaning of the words used, the context. Three, going to the police after bagging them previously on a nunber of occasions. It hasn't been a good year or two for the Green Party and it's looking more and more like James Shaw was the only one holding them together.
James should come back and kick out all these fucking idiots and make the Greens straight white male again, then we wouldn't have all these "misunderstandings".

Yeah I do when you put it like that, but is that what he did or is it all a big misunderstanding and he would never dream of harming a child? I don't know him and never heard of him until last week, there's a lot of agendas going on here.
them.
and yeah i agree. it’s a massive fuck up.
i don’t think for a second they want to fuck a kid. but if you put anyone else in the scenario it’s unsurvivable.

i’m all for propping up, standing up for and protecting our rainbow community, but it shouldn’t make them immune to criticism.

sure, but you don’t think if seymour or any of those ACT cookers posted a picture of a kid spread legs (clothed) on their lap and wrote boy pussy, the world wouldn’t implode?

it’s unacceptable by any means.
Is that correct marv? David fisher is a very good journalist who doesn't get things wrong. There's a clear breakdown of the facts and what was posted in the account.

Im assuming you are being a bit flippant with that comment. The Greens have always been an alternative, for want of a better word, party but they also had a few core policies and were very good at articulating them, and doing so quite respectfully. Currently I'm actually not sure what they stand for. They have morphed more in to an anarchist party, not dissimilar to the same progression the māori party has taken. If you look at what the party was like with Jeanette Fitzsimons and Rod Donald (or Pita Sharples and Tariana Turia for the māori party) or even with James Shaw it's almost chalk and cheese.

There’s always been that protest attitude though with the likes of John Minto serving and Sue Bradford

I posted the full text of David fishers herald article, it's a bit of a long read.

It is a mess.

Half flippant, their brand is in the toilet but their polling seems to he holding at around 10%, Chloe hasn't done much to grow their base though.

She seems like she’s lost her appeal, now that she’s now the boss and part of the establishment

She would have been better off going alone and taking the best and brightest with her, and working with both sides

She’ll hold the youth vote because of the view greens are the party to target climate change and the environment and I don’t think she needs to do too much for their votes. Younger people are a bit more politically savvy these days, in the sense they’re motivated to vote. America can’t fathom their youth in universities in support of Palestine, they seem to be more independent thinkers rather than what they’re being fed to believe

I think Swarbrick is those things and still fairly new to the role, but some of the members of the party in recent times has let her down. I do agree that James Shaw has been a loss
Swarbruick has potential but needs another 10 years experience both in life and politics.

The greens remind me of the Tigers the last few years, young with lots of enthusiasm but needing old head to focus them.

Ironically, they need a few Boomers because they are like NSW cup players being exposed in the big league.

I think she’s really going to become a force. I’m not a greens voter and never have been but I still see her similar to Winston in that they have a particular voter base that’s loyal. Hers is young and Winston’s is old. Unfortunately for Winston old people are coming towards the end of their lives whereas if Swarbrick’s voters stick with greens, their support will grow as new voters come through. I think NZ first will die with Winston
