Hipkins, when asked why he wouldn't start at Premier House said it was for two reasons.... firstly, the state of the house but also the extra cost in terms of staff and security required to be there if he was there full time. It was suggested on the radio this morning from a former Premier House senior staffer that having the PM and family in fulltime residence there adds around $2-2.5 mil per year running the place. Perhaps $53,000 to the PM isn't such a bad use of public money after all?

Is Luxon recieving this any different from former transport minister telling us to use public transport while admitting he only used it when it was convenient? Or former Auckland mayor, Len Brown, riding the train to work with the rest of us while his mayoral car followed alongside on the motorway? Or Greens MP's continuously talking about the benefits of intercity train travel over flying for the environment, yet, before the election, I flew from Wellington to Auckland on the same flight as three Green party MP's including co-leader Marama Davidson?

Or, again, we decide to only talk about Luxon because he's rich?
It is talked about because of his lack of political nous

TV One reporting possible power cuts this winter. No surprises as happened the last 2 winters.

We’ve had a big push for A/C in rentals; push for electric cars and no increase in generation… what could possibly go wrong?

Let alone record immigration/ population growth.

Pretty sure that gets reported on every year.
When the lakes and rivers are low they don't generate enough power.
And greedy consumers.

Bloody national government, can't even keep the lights on.
Auckland Electric Power Board used to have staff who specialised in 110V lines but most were made redundant when AEPB split into Vector and Mighty River Power (which later became Mercury). Labour stated the reforms in the 1980's but National finished the job in 1994. They'd built the replacement tunnels by 1998 but hadn't put the new lines in.

The subsequent report cleared the National government of the day blaming Vector.... but only because the terms of reference for the report was written in a way that central government couldn't be blamed.... a fact my dad hated every time I reminded him of that.

If the economy improved to the point that the austerity measures weren't in place and the government allowed spending again, would you be happy for him to join the rest of the MP's and Ministers claiming the allowance? Or would you be happy for there to be one rule for the very rich and one for the rest? What net worth value would you put on an PM taking the allowance or not?
