Yeah, you saw that with the Wellington protests. Nutters from right across the spectrum. Have to be a bit naive or blinkered to think it's just the right or just the left, or just one party that has them.
That's true. However the nutters had plenty of support from the "Chuckles Brothers "
right here.

I'm starting to agree that a Lab/Nat coalition is the best outcome for the country under MMP, it could double the pool of suitably qualified ministers to about a dozen. Let the fringe-dwelling extremists and conspiracy lunatics hold the Grand WEF Coalition govt to account, this is an emergency.

Mate, in a crisis/ emergency you usually have a dedicated single person come in with single minded authority who is able to cut through the processes and get things sorted.

Given we have crisis in housing, health, cost of living, climate, etc and Labours screwed up the place so bad, Iā€™m proposing Andrew Webster be given the job for the next 3 years.

I was going to propose Graham Hart as our best ever businessman and therefore a visionary genius but I knew juju would blow a valve šŸ¤£

Also right wing non-conforming tennis player who drives a Skoda and supports protestors.
I want to clear things up about the protestors.

I believe in the rule of law - itā€™s the platform everything is built off. I detest tree hugging protesters. I detest unions and strikes. But I respect everyoneā€™s right to protest.

I detested the Wellington protests but for the first time in my life I supported the cause even though I was double vacinated and followed all the rules. Those greenies and Labour voters sitting around a campfire (on a playground) and peacefully protesting did my job for me by getting the covid rules removed so I could get back to making more money.

I was used to 3 overseas holidays a year and eating out 5 nights a week, playing tennis and golf and socialising at the 19th hole. They denied me my basic rights to feed and entertain myself by locking us down like common criminals.

All just to save some unproductive old people who sat to close to 3G towers without a tinfoil hat on!

And i would never be seen at the country club in a Skoda!

Just playing up to the warped impressions that some on the forum have of meā€¦ šŸ¤£

You have had it hard and I feel for you. Of course, your situation would be much worse if you were Maori.

What do you think has happened in the last year?
Oh hi Grant!

I'm not trying to pin our GDP per capita decline on anything in particular as I don't have the analysis to hand to blame it on the weather or the Ukraine or anything else

The fact is, as demonstrated by Eaqub, GDP per capita has decline from its peak a year ago

Yes, it's not that bad, on that I agree. But it's not that great either

Not that great, but not that bad off a pandemic and two substantial natural disasters.

But the hysteria in this thread - by a bunch of blokes who seem to think they know more than qualified economists and were all saying the country was in the toilet.

Not to mention and opposition running attack advertising that NZ was in recession.

And the media that was supposedly orchestrating a "corruption of democracy" on behalf of the Labour government.

Perspective...

The immigration work visa scandal...apparently some f the checking amounted to a Google search!!!

Immigration Minister Andrew Little said yesterday he wasnā€™t sure how many temporary migrants had been fraudulently sold AEWV visas by companies that werenā€™t real, that didnā€™t have real work or real jobs. Immigration NZ started last year with 15 staff who ā€˜checkedā€™ 27,000 companies and issued over 80,000 visas in the following 12 months. It now has seven staff doing the checks, which are reported to be mostly searches of the companies office website and google.

Yesterday, Little appeared shockedā€¦.shockedā€¦by the results of the ā€˜checkingā€™ and recommended migrants take care. He commented as Immigration NZ announced a package of support for exploited migrants, including rights to apply for new migrant exploitation visas and temporary financial support at the level of jobseeker benefits.

"Too often, recently, we've seen migrants arriving and starting work, only to be dismissed within days.

"Watch out for the scams. If you are paying tens of thousands of dollars in order to come to work here, you are being scammed, that is not what it costs to get a visa to come here, so be very careful." Andew Little

I had hopes that that's the kind of thing the United Party would be - the left of National and the right of Labour all in one party and so damn sensible they'd constantly poll 80% and upwards. No sir. Never even came close to happening and once Future got involved - no idea the reasons/ideological meeting of minds that made that happen - it become even less close to happening.

the green line is NZ. We are in a worse position now than we were a year ago
And predicted to be lower in a years time as well. Economist think the banks may now raise the OCR again because the economy hasnā€™t slowed enough to dampen inflation.

Pretty sad position where the cure is to half kill the patientā€¦ but thatā€™s basically where weā€™re at.

My local MP, saw him putting up his signs all alone looking sad this week.
Gave him a toot and wave... probably shouldn't have.
Another ā€˜unnamed sourceā€™ with ā€˜no official complaintā€™ story. If the complainant wonā€™t back it up it ainā€™t news.

Sounds like incompetent staff that werenā€™t up to the job, when they run to the media instead of going through the official channels.

When they claim Halbert was "manipulative", "scheming", "a narcissist" - isnā€™t that all politicians? Did they think politics was tiddlywinks?

What is it with Labour and their bullying behaviour?

Whats this, another person eminently more qualified than anybody here - saying the prognosis ain't that bad.

Australia is generating a government budget surplus of $19b.

Nz government is running a budget deficit of $11b, borrowing massively to pump cash into and stimulate the economy and buying ourselves out of recession through debt. Sort of how a crack addict thinks they are going goodā€¦

Australia also has a current account surplus of $14b. NZ is still running a huge $33b current account deficit which means our private sector is borrowing hugely to cover our productivity shortfall.

We are massive debt junkies building a house of cards.

On the economists today:
- ASBā€™s Nathaniell Keall: ā€œwe continue to expect growth to slow over the next twelve to eighteen months,ā€
- BNZ head of research Stephen Toplis was unimpressed by the headline number. ā€œIf we ignore all the Covid noise this is the weakest performance by this economy since Q2, 2011,ā€ he said. ā€œBut itā€™s going to get a lot worse.ā€
- ANZ has warned that any rebound would be a ā€œdead cat bounceā€

Hardly a rigging endorsement from independent economists.
