‘Could’ ‘unable to rule out’ and Labours maintenance issues.

All noise. I will judge them in a couple of years leading up to the next election.

The pigs in the trough seem to be steaming the loudest about the govt no longer living beyond its means.
Trains not running because of apparent heat issues on a few kilometres section of track is somehow because the new Government is going to be following treasury's advice and reigning in the out of control, unsustainable spending from the previous government?

Dunno why you cannot work out that there is a problem and your GOVTs solution is to cut funding despite the problem now interfering in the ongoing function of a system.

So in your world if Labor let something get broken, then National not doing anything about it is ok. What use is this Govt to us then???

Like you literally try to gas light the issue to the blame game, rather than admitting that cutting funding when shit is broken (irrespective of who is responsible we are talking about fixing broken shit) but you want to to ignore the current reality.
Obviously a lack of infrastructure spend by both parties over many years

We’ve been living beyond our means. National has said this. Treasury has said this. Tax payers are saying it. Even Labour was cutting spending.

Yet people are confused and outraged when the hard decisions are made…
Certainly no over spending on infrastructure over the years.
That's the reason for the issues we are facing now. Not only rail and water but everything

The new Government haven't cut anything yet so blaming them for something that happened this week on any potential cuts that haven't even happened yet is trolling, at best. And those lines have been getting upgraded with that last remaining track to be completed. Blaming previous governments on a lack of investment is fair enough.

I think there’s been a long term underinvestment in infrastructure from all parties.

But it’s driven by our lack of wealth as a country due to low productivity plus our absurd build costs (lack of economies of scale, remoteness, etc)

We’ve made a choice to not use our natural wealth.

We’re like the superannuitants of the world - natural asset rich but cash poor. And like them, slowly we’re accumulating old furniture which we can’t afford to upgrade.

Not only Govt but local councils ..

There has been investment in rail in Northland. Over the last two years there has been thousands of concrete rail sleepers delivered to various laybys where they sit and become overgrown with vegetation. Probably delivered them to the wrong place or ordered the wrong size.

I think the problem is the quality of the spending. Labour had a field day heroically dusting 60bn, Shane Jones 3bn etc. If only those guys had the foresight to speak to all stakeholders and not just their constituents, that money could have been better spent on infrastructure

A billion dollars is a lot of money!

And yes, past governments across the spectrum has underspent on the right things and overspent on the wrong things

Do you live in a fucking vacuum?

The ignorance is almost as staggering as the as the arrogance to join a debate without the requisite knowledge.
