He was sentenced to 26 months!!! So his right to vote in prison is currently being vigorously defended by TPM, Labour and the Greens

I'm of the view that he kissed those rights away when he started offending against children under his care

As a side note, I agree with your earlier points regarding name suppression etc

I didn’t read it properly obviously, but 26 months for his offending is pitiful. Deserves a hell of a lot more than that and the loss of voting privileges

Are we saying people with mental illnesses shouldn’t be able to vote as well?

I’m for that. If you can’t handle society, how can you decide who runs the country?

But realistically, the arguments over criminals voting - they are a tiny percentage of the population and most wouldn’t bother voting anyway. Not worth worrying about really.

I think the whole point around the 3 year mark was the academics of the opinion that it gives them an opportunity to integrate back into society among the benefits. No I’m not of that opinion myself regarding those suffering from mental health, you deserve a vote as much as anyone
