Just on the Ashes....Davey Warner once again proving former players dont always make great commentators.

Tbf i wasnt that keen on Neil Wagner during the Windies series as well. I mean doesnt help he joined the most boring commentary team TVNZ could possibly assemble (plus he sounds like he's always in the middle of taking a dump). These ex players know their shit for sure....but talk about a charisma free zone! Here's hoping when SKY get it next year we get Smithy back.

Warner is a cock and has zero charisma.

What has happened to these pitches in Australia?

Love Coney, Bracewell and Smith - perfect for radio, the obvious elephant in the room is they're all over 70.

I'm a diehard radio on, tv for pictures only and we've been spoilt all these years with test match commentary.

Some of the newer ex black caps can provide great insights too, and we'll need to replenish the stocks at some point!

Okay, it's not the black caps, it's the ashes, just for today......at various times I can't stand England, India and more frequently Aussie, all generally very arrogant and always pleasant to see each of the three get taken down a peg or two when it happens.

But right now - FFS ENGLAND FIGHT!

Yeah no comparison, the Radio commentary is sooo much better. Its night and day.

The difference i think is chemistry.....they have it. And those guys are comfortable enough expressing their own personality with banter and stories or criticism that its far more entertaining. TVNZ dont seem to factor this when assembling a commentary team and we're left with similar sort of characters which can be quite vanilla and boring (personal taste obviously). Not knocking the ex players knowledge or insight of situations, but imo when commentary is just purely a forenzic break down of ball to batsman, it can get pretty bland after a while.

Grant Elliott when he started was sort of like this, but as he's got more relaxed and comfortable in the role more of his personality comes through which i think improves the insight he offers and is also way more entertaining, Wags will probably loosen up as he gets more comfortable too.

Test cricket can be a pretty hard watch and hard sell at times. Think its pretty important the way u present it clicks with the fan base your trying to win.

Be interesting when Sky pick up the rights again how they package it.

That Ashes test today was entertaining, but only because it was close. A few years ago the Australian pitches were being criticized for being boring and too easy to bat on, but for the last couple of years they have been minefields at times. I actually think we've been getting it right with our pitches for a while - something for the bowlers on day 1, good batting on days 3 and 4 and deterioration on day 5.

After the Perth test they had records for shortest test or most wickets in 2 days. The games they were comparing against were from the 1800's or the early 1900's. Then you'd see 2025/2026.

Yesterday was an interesting chase for England. Can see why the game was so far advanced. Even in their run chase they were scoring qucker than a 50 over match. Still with some risky moments.

The game is over by the time the pitch is settling down for what should be the best batting conditions.
