Has stead gone to the same coaching school as Webster with an over reliance on veterans?

He withhold most talented domestic players until they are closer to 30 years old so by the time they find their groove they’re physically over the hill. It’s showing him up now

Will Young is like 32 now? 😂 Phillips started at 19 and held back till 25, now he is 27 and has like 4 years of peak cricket before breaking down. Rachin only got a chance due to injuries, he’s 25 this year, not THAT young either. Mitchell is like 33 got his start at like 28 😂 Chapman keeps getting his chances to fail too lol

The golden gen of Kane, Boult, Southee, Anderson etc got their start at 20, 21, imagine Stead was the coach back then.

What a mess lol, why is Stead not stepping down to allow a shake up?

And Tom Latham is not 21 anymore
Hopeing Latham is only a stop gap captain for the tour of India, he's pretty much only in the team now based on past performances and the fact there is nobody else pushing for his spot

I was so disappointed in him for failing miserably at the world cup in India, he was amazing on Asian surfaces before and choked big time. About his captaincy, again he should have been the test captain 5 years ago lol, Stead is causing serious developmental delays for our kids

The Black Caps have seen the light in finding an injury replacement for Williamson for the test series in India by selecting someone for the future.

Just kidding! They have selected Mark Chapman...for test match cricket...in India. Bracewell for the first test before coming back for paternity leave, and Ish Sodhi is recalled as his replacement.

This is such a stagnant organisation.

Oh dear lord.....

If Williamson doesn't play it would surely be Will Young coming into the 11. Would Young, Latham, Conway, Ravindra work for the top 4?

If I were Kane I'd just retire from international cricket until a new competent management comes in, before turning 36 (maybe 1 last go at the world cup), otherwise just retire from NZ. Why wasting time going to these unpleasant environments to get destroyed when you could be having father time or earning big bucks in short easy comps in Jamaica, England and Australia. You've broken all the NZ records already anyway

This is like Michael Jordan in his final seasons and the Bulls draft loser coaches & amateurs players around him.

100% management are to blame. This team is in a rut but there are some terrific players that are being wasted. Conway, Mitchell, Henry and the new crop of Ravindra, Sears, O'Rourke. We could have easily beaten Australia last summer but it was the blunders off the field that ultimately cost us.

Yup the fielding has been atrocious since 2022 and bowling as an unit cost us a chance to challenge in 2023 ODI world cup, I reckon with a good management we had a chance to win it when AUS had its worst team for decades & India doing their regulation chokes, our batting was amazing even when Latham was a dud.

Yes we should have broken the hoodoo and won at least a test match against AUS who are clearly not in their golden era

Oh and what they did to Wagner. $@#$#

Yeah. They also stupidly risked Conway as a wicket keeper in the throwaway T20 series immediately before the tests when he was already fatigued which proved costly followed by the Kuggeleijn selection when he was out of form in Plunket shield earlier in the season and was making a test debut only on week's of playing T20.

Just completely baffling decisions at times. No warmup games for the t20 world cup was another weird one.

Lol just seen on cricinfo England scored 823!

Pakistan scored 556 in their first innings and still lost! Got rolled in the 2nd.

Harry Brook 317 (havent seen much of him but geez he sounds like a talent) and Root 262.......the scoring rate in this test must have been out the gate.
Pakistan scored at a pretty quick rate, but England went at nearly 6 an over during their entire innings!

First team in history to concede 500+ in first innings and still win by an innings

The amateur decisions, the absolute decline in our fielding, our fitness, our intelligence is all now the antithesis of what NZ cricket has always been about, where we had to scrap and find those points of difference to get an advantage on the international stage. Given Gary Stead was a battler I would have thought that innate Kiwi attitude and grit would continue, but sadly it hasnt. Bangladesh and Afghanistan have stolen our mantle in that regard, I hope we can find those tough uncompromising qualities again.
Being a staunch black caps supporter it is beyond sad the blasé and unprofessional approach in recent times and subsequent dip in performance over the last 2 years, the players and public deserved a significantly better management of our resources, the opportunities lost will only be amplified as the lean years ahead force us to reminisce!!!
