Sports 🏏 Black Caps

And I feel like cricket goes in cycles a little bit. At the moment baz ball and batsman with T20 skills are being talked about. It won't be long until a side is getting batted out of games because they can't adapt to test cricket and it will move the other way. England v Australia will be an interesting test series and could cause a lot more debate on the merits of the attack at all costs strategy.
Interesting listening to Michael Vaughans comments after the bizarre Pant dismissal yesterday. He said you should not discourage that type of play for batters of that nature but you should have no more than two of them in your top seven. He said the current England team doesn't have the balance right.

Vaughn also brought up the 4 day test debate earlier in the series but I didn't really agree with his argument for doing it.

And you remember that! That's the point!!! These series nowadays don't mean shit!
Way before my time so I can't speak much about it but with it being fresh I'm guessing that type of tournament had some real novelty. The number of franchise based T20 series and frequency of T20 world cups along with the champions trophy have really diluted the appeal of those ODI tri-series these days.

Can Vaughn give me a compelling argument as to why he wants this current India v Australia test match to finish tonight instead of going in to the 5th day?

Don't think he is talking about this test match in particular.
Just his opinion on the overall take on tests in the future
Hopefully never happens but unfortunately many are not going the distance

They mean SFA these days.

It's crazy. I'd doubt we would have even seen Smith get to his grafting hundred. As entertaining as the innings from Konstas was and certainly a good start to the first innings a quick 60 should not be the barometer now.

Day 4 of this boxing day test has been pretty captivating. Australia trying to build a lead but kept losing wickets. Get towards the tail and India can't get the final wicket.

They had the stat for winning run chases in Melbourne. They weren't very high (ranged from 120-220) so Australia's 320+ is going to be tough to chase down. The interesting thing with the stat wasn't just the low targets but the low amount of wickets that teams got them with. Usually losing 1-2 wickets. That would indicate those teams did it reasonably easy as you'd expect some of the chases to be 7-9 wickets down. Especially if it has been so hard to chase down a target there.

It's been an incredibly see-sawing test. Not sure what win viz is showing now but with Australia 8-155 India was a 55% chance of winning with Australia 40% and a draw 5%. I suspect a draw would be closer to 50% now, but all 3 results still a real possibility. For India to win they will need to pull one out of the bag with one of the top 4 being a rock and someone like Pant or Jadeja getting a brisk score in. In their favor is that they have genuine batting down to 8.

If I have my maths right the very tight win South Africa just got over Pakistan has qualified them for the WTC final. If there is a result in tomorrow's final day of the test and Australia win they are in. If it's India the Sydney test will be the decider.

This test and day of cricket is poised nicely. If India can get through 30 overs relatively well they can then look to lift the run rate and put the pressure on Australia. If they lose too many wickets before then India will have the pressure on to bat out the day. Will be compelling viewing I think.

Aussie on top. Kohli needs to stand up here and vat most of the next session and a half with Jaiswal
Unfortunately losing 2 so early has resulted in India batting to save the test. As you say though if those two stick around for that long Pant is next to come in and can score big quick. We saw that in the last series in Australia. Australia massive favorites now but who knows.
