Grass roots level League can have a bit of an image problem that it needs to escape, where I grew up it was heavily gang influenced which turned many away

Yeah this is why the growth in the women's game and schools is all important. Moving the culture towards a family focussed club scene.

Interesting that Lancaster is making noises about paying off Silver Lake when no investor is going to touch an organisation with a balance sheet in such distress - I wonder if he's hoping for a government bailout?

In a real sign of how bad things are they cant afford business class seats for the all blacks anymore.

Upgrading the seats on flights was something the Cowboys wanted for themselves and the Warriors, who travel longer distances. Also for clubs travelling to NZ etc. Not sure if that went anywhere.


On Lancaster, he has said their financial results go in cycles over the four-year World Cup cycle. Next year, with the World Cup, will be a down year due to fewer home tests.

If this year was supposed to be one of their better years. Ouch.

This year they also got a fee of about $17m for the sponsorship cancellation, which is obviously a one off.

Next year also sees the first year of the reduced Sky TV money - down $30m a year (as Sky dont want to pay overs for a product that has thousands of empty seats these days).

And they've just canned the global streaming app that they've ploughed $39m into - they told Silver Lake they had a potential market of 50,000,000 people globally but only managed 435,000 subscribers.
