Coach Bio

Daniel Anderson began his coaching career with the Parramatta Eels, working his way up into an assistant coach position in 2000. In his only year in the position, the side made their third preliminary final, losing to the Brisbane Broncos.

In 2001, Anderson was made head coach of the rebranded New Zealand Warriors, leading the team to their first finals appearance.

The following year, Anderson won Dally M Coach of the Year, leading the side to the 2002 Minor Premiership, and the 2002 NRL Grand Final, losing to the Sydney Roosters.

Anderson led the side to another successful season in 2003, with another preliminary final appearance, losing to eventual premiers, the Penrith Panthers.

After a disappointing 3-8 start to the 2004 season, which included a 58-6 loss to the Roosters, Anderson resigned as head coach.

Joining St Helens in the Super League in 2005, Anderson went on to take the side to 3 consecutive Challenge Cup Finals and Super League Grand Finals from 2006-2008, winning each Challenge Cup Final, and winning the 2006 and 2007 Super League Grand Finals.

Anderson returned to the NRL in 2009 with the Parramatta Eels, now as head coach.

In 2009, The Eels made an improbable grand final appearance after finishing 8th-place but lost by 7 points to the Melbourne Storm. After a 12th-place finish in 2010, Anderson was sacked by the Parramatta Eels, and replaced by Stephen Kearney.

Andeson would go on to work with the NRL as Referee performance manager until 2013, when he returned to Parramatta as General Manager of Football Operations in 2013.

In 2016, Anderson was deregistered by the NRL due to his involvement in the Parramatta salary cap scandal, in which players had payments made to them outside of the cap.

After having convinced the NRL to allow his re-registration, the Sydney Roosters signed Anderson as a Recruitment Manager in 2019.

On New Years Eve 2022, Anderson was involved in a surfing accident on the Central Coast of New South Wales which resulted in a severe spinal cord compression injury, making him an incomplete quadriplegic.
