Coach Bio

A foundation player for the club with 79 appearances between 1995-1998, Kearney was announced to be rejoining the club on a three-year deal from 2017 as head coach.

In nine seasons as Kiwi's head coach, the longest coaching tenure in the history of the team, Kearney led the national side to unprecedented success. As well as winning the World Cup for the first time in 2008 followed by the Four Nations victories in 2010 and 2014, Kearney guided the Kiwis to a breakthrough Anzac Test win in 2015 to complete a run of three consecutive wins over the Kangaroos.

Apart from assistant coach roles with Melbourne (2006-2010) and Brisbane (2013-2016), he was head coach with Parramatta in 2011-2012. He’s the second former Vodafone Warrior to become head coach following Ivan Cleary (2006-2011).

In 2018, Kearney led the Warriors to their first finals appearance since the 2011 Grand Final. Despite losing 27-12 to the Penrith, Kearney earned a three-year extension to his contract.

After 79 games as head coach, matching his number of games as a player, Kearney was sacked in 2020, following a 40-12 defeat to South Sydney, and a 2-4 start to the season.

Following his Warriors role, Kearney returned to Melbourne as an assistant from 2021-2022.
