General Will we make the 8?

If the Panthers rest 16 of their usual players, does that not leave only 14 of the squad of 30 available for the game (only one on the bench)? Surely, they bring up another 3 from their cup team.
This makes a mockery of the competition and the NRL must see that it doesn't happen in future. To my mind, players being rested should undergo an independent doctor's report that they are unable to play due to injury. The dogs will be highly delighted that their task of staying in the top 4 is virtually sealed so they can rest players in round 27.

People want Ivan back.

I don't the way that lot bend the rules on and off the field is not my idea of a coach.

Its a tough one as it borders on result fixing without it actually being that. By the same token the toll on the body towards the end of the season is monumental regardless of the severity of injury so player welfare comes into it. 12 games at home and 12 away is also the perfect number and reducing the number of games will erode what makes this comp so great. I don't know what the answer is that would be fair.

Only happens once every ten years or more.

This guy is capable of making it a permanent state of affairs for the Warriors.

He is the best thing that has ever happened to this club, him and McFadden.
Always said I want this club to be like Broncos were:
Made the Finals - whatever system was in place, obviously different criteria depending on the system - from 1991 to 2009.
So every season, quiet celebration that Finals were guaranteed. Box ticked. Now, how do we win the bloody TROPHY!?
2010. No Finals Football. Everybody very unhappy.

Another aspect about Webby. I don't feel Stace or Cappy actually want Webby's job, so there's no white-anting, no chatting to Mohawk: "I know the stats make you think Webby's good, but, mate, I could do a better job!"

I will post this here seeing as it is discussing the finals.

From this article, around resting players and the impact on the broadcasting deal.

If the Warriors secure a top four berth at the weekend, they are set to rest players for their last-round encounter against Manly rather than have a full-strength squad fly to Australia and back a week out from the finals. Canterbury may also have the luxury of giving players leave passes for the round 27 showdown with Cronulla should they be secure in the top four, while likely minor premiers Canberra face a similar opportunity ahead of a trip to Brisbane to meet the Dolphins.

This reads like we have stated we will rest players. Like it is a fact. Has that been mentioned anywhere?

From what I've seen, our coaching staff are more concerned with how we have been performing on the field and turning that around.

The team has been disrupted by injuries. Our halves haven't played together consistently, our fullback was playing centre. We spent a large proportion of the year playing with a second rower at right centre and recently Pompey covering at right centre. I'd say out of the current teams vying for a top 4 spot, we are the ones most in need of game time

Surely limiting some of our travel at the end of a long season is fair enough to rest a few players. Let's hope we become a regular top 4 team to have that debate. We may get teams resting players for a similar reason, wanting to avoid travelling to NZ and back.

I have said in the past that for Grand Finals, it is more likely we will qualify for a Grand Final by playing and winning the week before in Australia and we should consider staying over there. As travelling back to NZ loses us a day, then we also have to head back early for the Grand Final breakfast etc. We lose preparation time while the opposition is training.

For all we know the club may be thinking the first week of the finals is an away game and might be considering staying in camp over there to perform week 1. The following game is then at home in NZ.

Like it or not, this is what it takes to win the comp. Storm have always been cheats and thrive on pushing and exploiting rules to the limit. Penreff have adopted that approach, except with less cap cheating. Outside of them there's the rule pushing Roosters, peptide Sharks etc.

Dogs are grubby AF, a bit amatuer about it but they're building to it. Also their salary cap and recruitment shennagins. Raiders honestly just so impressive and I hope they win it if we don't. Feel like they will come up a game or two short yet again.

The only other way is to basically have an immortal level talent (e.g. Thurston). Though I am unsure even a team with him in it could win in this current environment, without pushing the rules to the limits.

If you can't beat 'em, and we can't, you need to join 'em. We should be looking to exploit every loophole and fringe rule we can. Double for us considering we're the most disadvantaged club in the league by a margin.

I am skeptical we'd ever be allowed to push the rules in the same way aussie clubs are though. In which case I think we need multiple generational talents all at the same time, plus some key injuries to contenders at the right time, for the stars to align on a single championship.

More than likely we rest players if we lock in top 4 this weekend, same as 2023 Dolphins game. While it may detract from seeing certain teams play each other resting their first choice team, it could also go the other way with some teams playing more high risk footy without their regulars and there being not much weighing on the outcomes of matches.

It also means teams are more fresh for finals making for more exciting finals matches.

It is anti the raison d'étre of Sport, fundamentally this is not sporting behavior.

If what you say is true then some things are not worth winning. There is more to life, keeping ones morals and principles transcends trophy's and trinkets.

Someone has to show Australians that cheating is an inferior trait of lesser beings.

I do laugh at Australians who like to push the rules and call it gamesmanship. But then kept upset about players being rested and are worried about the fans or the credibility of the competition.

It is hard to figure out when all of this is ok. Like years ago when the Black Caps slowed their run rate so South Africa would make the final instead of Australia. They were then worried about reputation of the sporting contest.

They need to write a book of what is ok and when. Or we really need to get our act together so we can rest our player every year and get the riled up.

It's an aussie comp, and aussies cheat. Not that this is unique to the NRL in any way. But aussies are the most ruthless win at all cost cats out there.

It's up to the NRL as an org to put a stamp down on this kind of behaviour, but just like politicians, they'll only ever do it if they're forced to as they don't really give a shit about principals.

IMO we're not talking about going out and intentionally injuring players or something. Just pushing the rules to the extreme of their interpretation. It's the norm in all competitive pro sports, and the most succesful orgs almost all partake in it. Just look at the Pats ball tampering, playbook stealing etc. Probably the tip of the iceberg.

I'd rather it wasn't a thing, but it is and if we ever win a comp, we''ll be pushing the rules with the best of them I guarantee it.

Cheating is inherent to sport. Trying to get rid of it is like trying to stop people from lying altogether. You just can't change human nature.

Many non-wahs fans actually think we are the worst offenders, alongside dogs, Canberra and Panthers when it comes to cheating in the ruck. We definitely push the envelope when it comes to lying all over the ruck and pushing the ref in this area. Personally I don't have a problem with it and us getting away with it is a large part of why we have won so many games this year. We also have some of the best actors in the comp when it comes to diving for penalties. It does irk me sometimes but it did literally win us a game against wests this year.

When I was young (100 years ago) the only corrupt sports were Horse racing and Boxing. Only sports that you could bet on. Early 80's Australia introduced sports betting and everything changed. It is no longer sport and is classified as "ENTERTAINMENT' so bet away.

cheating isn't inherent to Aussies. All good teams across all sports do it. In yawnion, the ABs team from 2010-2016 got away with murder at times during those golden years. The amount of yellow/red cards that players like Kaino and SBW were willing to cop to get a leg up rubbed opposition fans (particularly wallabies fans) the wrong way.

I’d love for us to lock down a top 4 spot this weekend, is it even possible??

Sharks to lose to Knights and Broncos to Cowboys? 😬
