To be fair Marata is supposedly on 840k a year and has cracked over 100m once in his career which was in 2020. Just for comparisons sake for a second rower, Jackson Ford was over 100m a game last year. Granted he brings more physicality with his game, but his stats are fairly low for what he was brought here on. We seem to be paying overs not just on Aussie recruits, but also for kiwis returning home.

His eventual transition to prop will be interesting. Needs to bring a lot more to the table for what is close to elite player cash.
When I think of back rowers transitioning to props I always think of Lillman. He went 👍

One thing we did in our recruitment last season is the guys we recruited CNK, Niukore, Barnett and Walker were all in their mid twenties in their prime.

If you look at the props who went well in their thirties they were tall athletic guys like Price and Petero and Bromwich. Don’t recall any players with a build of BHU playing well in their 30’s. As a comparison Andrew Fifita won a comp at 27 and played his last origin at 28.

He's been a bit of a let down so far. Hasn't done anything Josh Curran could have done and he would have been on less than half the salary.
Hopefully he doesn't miss as many games this year and gets to show us some consistent impact in the middle.

I think he, marata, has been very good
1) he is our enforcer. I happen to be a fan that thinks every team needs one. His intimidation of Fifita was captivating
2) he may have only 6 or 8 hit ups pet game but they all to the eye were momentum changing and got us on the front foot in that set
3) he scared the shit out of every stand-off in the comp big running just at them
4) he follows instructions. He has a specific set of instructions and follows them
5) he expects to win and came from a winning culture at the eels In 2022 we were a losing culture he and the other added players last year plus Webster changed that culture.

I do agree for that money he can’t go around getting himself suspended and missing games but just quietly he is close to being my favourite player in the team and I know other warriors faithful fans dig him as well.
I am sorry for putting you on the spot by quoting you as you may very well agree with all my points. I just wanted to respond to the last post on him.

Yeah that is a bit of a worry.
One thing in his favor is he’s only played 99 games where as those other guys had all play 200+ by his age and were pretty banged up.

After reading all these stats of BHU's minutes and metres, we really just need a big body prop to hold the middle and not get steamrolled by the bigger packs so the halves and outside backs can do their thing. If BHU can do that role so be it, still need another big body prop to help him out though, post-contact metres are still the most valuable asset in prop, only size and power gets pcm regardless of Webby's magic powers.

If Sharks offered BHU $550 that makes me wonder if the $750 report is accurate…otherwise it could be just higher than what other teams were offering like others said, which means he is in demand and we generated enough in the tank to outbid and get our guy

I can't see how they could offer him $550 after signing AFB for around $1M. Where would the $1M cap space be freed up from.
