That’s one of a couple of things that if I was looking at this from a Dragons perspective strike me as odd.
Why would you pay a cent to someone asking for a release?
A shoulder irritation lodged on 12 Dec and then later knowing the severity could be interpreted as us not treating an injury (assuming if that’s when it actually happened), which I can understand possibly looks worse if we released him not long after
Warriors most likely wanted him gone because he was not needed because he was the 5th half and was taking up salary cap room that could be used else where. So they would of told him he was free to talk to other clubs, thats the clubs way of trying to get him off to another club. When the club says he asked for a release thats just a nice way to put it. Then to get the release finalised they would of had to pay some of his salary to get the deal done.

does make you wonder who the club are lining up as a signing for 2025. they are happy to wear his cost in this years cap but frees up space for next year

I enjoy these guys.

Cant argue with anything they really had to say.

Only question I have is that the Dragons posted on their social media clips of Volkman training with them and passing the ball. So is it more likely that he had a niggle or tweak from December 12th and has been aggravated since then, possibly at the Dragons training? Seems like he was training and passing at the Dragons, injury got worse to the point he couldn't pass the ball and then they have checked him out properly.
Those social media clips got deleted pretty quick which in itself is a bit suss

Yay, look at Ronnie go! Getting stuck in at training with us. New Year, New Signing!

Ronnie who? No, he has a busted shoulder. Didn't sign him. No..... Not us. No way.

But you posted social media clips of him at your training.

Did we? Where are they?

You deleted them.

No... Not us. No way. Players can't train with a club unless their contract is lodged with the NRL. Does he have a contract lodged with the NRL? No. No way. Not us. Can't have been training with us then can he?

Kemp contradicts himself to a degree when mentioning a player just has no idea what’s happening inside and tries to show up each week injured or not, but goes on to say Warriors should have known. If the player is not being forthcoming with their injury, how can a club know? Also the training with Warriors prior to him leaving might not have been contact training, but just running type training that surely wouldn’t have added to his shoulder injury or the injury not picked up on because more endurance work at that time than drills that would show he’s struggling to pass a ball? The Warriors couldn’t have known the dragons wouldn’t conduct their own medical for Volkman which by the sounds is just normal practice. This would have picked up the injury, so I don’t see anything we’ve done wrong? Sure there’s question marks around the timing of the release and the injury but it’s been on the cards that one of the halves would make way for SJ staying for some time.

Injuries can also not seem as bad to start then get worse over time. I remember when I broke my wrist and ruptured my ACL because of the ACL I didn't notice my wrist. 2-3 weeks later when I was at work I was struggling to lift things due to pain in my wrist went for a x ray and had a fractured scaphoid but hadn't really noticed it until I'd been lifting some heavier stuff.

Going to hurt the dragons in recruitment this sort of shit. Something rotten behind the scenes too when no one turns up to honour your marquee player Ben Hunt and he publicly upset about it. Now they bring in a known cheat as their coach, though he’s got results in the past. Hard to see that they improve but some people shine in adversity.

The scans apparently showed 2 screws had worked their way loose, could it be the operation or construction hasn’t worked rather than a contact injury?

See that dragons are close to signing Christian Tuipulotu from the sea eagles apparently. Good sign for dragons that a player has followed Flanagan from him assistant there last year, would think they’d strengthen other areas than wing though. Ravalawa has got one sewn up.

Good attacker, but a 78% tackle efficiency himself doesn’t set the world on fire with outstanding defence.
Yeah but he’s replacing Mathew Feagai who is a huge liability. Had easily the worst negative play stats (combo of missed tackles, try causes, errors, etc) in the NRL last season. Next worst in order were Paul Alamoti, Jojo Fifita, Junior Tupou, Asu Kepaoa & Reed Mahoney. The worst 20 are dominated by Bulldogs, Titans & Tigers players, however Feagai is way out in front. A smart coach like Flanno was always going to dump him.

I’m not sure Tuipulotu will fix that and could speak more to the backline around Feagai for that negative stat. They both tackled at the same efficiency last year and Tuipulotu only offered 10 extra average run meters from about 10 less games. Tuipulotu starts if he ends up there but really liked the looks of Sione Finau for them who debuted against us too. Probably a bit early to put all eggs in his basket though.

Nah he’s replacing a player that was dead last in the comp, it’s a solid upgrade. Feagai shouldn’t have been playing first grade. Anyway nothing to do with the Warriors so moving on.
