I hate to be a debby downer but he was bang average in cup as well. He might have trained hard but it didnt warrant a call up to first grade basis cup form and would have to disagree the club got it wrong (other then maybe bringing him over?)
there’s so many variables in Harper’s signing that we don’t know to judge it a success or failure.
From a ‘first grade’ POV, if all our centres were healthy, he probs doesn’t even play cup - a fact he and the club knew signing on, and even that he’d be behind Cape-wah and even Leka if disaster strikes (or even RTS and CNK).
So why sign him?
Ideally, A 50+ nrl first grade veteran and you’d hope a sterling role model and benchmark on and off field. ‘Here’s how I saw DCE prepare? In that situation, Turbo might …’
And showing here’s how a true pro player who isn’t playing first grade trains and contributes to a group
Does that lift the playing group more than another youngster coming in? If so, money well spent.
Was he really ‘blocking anyone’?
If he was ‘average’, last I checked we won the grade.

I know there was talk on here potentially about either Linnane or Inch playing full back, but have we heard any chat from the club around plans for full back moving forward. It's such a key position, and while Roger would be an improvement over CNK at least, surely there's some kind of plan or ideas for the future?
Would be good to see what their plans with both Linnane and Inch are at least.
Inch and Linnane are still nobody yet. Forward planning etc sure..... But our fullback hierarchy surely still looks like CNK, TT, RTS. Even if I don't like it.

seems we mostly agree, i would say its a success just cause we had a player who ( potentially) is a first grader, even if it didnt play that way.

He did play average in a successful team and he didn't finish out the season when others became available. Unless there was an injury im not aware of he was back up for the cup team on form.

To be honest I didn't know Morgan Harper existed before he came here.

Which is a good thing imo, because you have no preconceptions.

I read all the criticisms, expected he would either live up to the anti hype or like so many under this regime turn out good enough for FG.

Probably get shot down but I thought he looked great. I thought he looked at least as good as Ali and Rocco's showings (having said that I am fully aware he is not playing NRL level competition - someone will point that out anyway I'm sure).

Harper if you didn't know him looked like a classy promising up and comer (I know he is not a noob just saying if you applied that lense/wiped his forum criminal records - gave him a new identity - people would be excited about him).

Harper had a turn of pace, very slick hands, and nice footwork, and he seemed to be keeping up in cup - shining in fact.

Lets see how AKP the notorious goes around here (with the punters).

With AKP you can guarantee that if his first game sees him score a Try he will be seen favorably no matter what he does or doesn't do on defence.

Equally if AKP does not score in his first game, and lets in a try or two, you can guarantee he is dead around here.

At the moment he gets a pass because he is new and everyone (not named Harper) deserves a chance - and more importantly he gets a pass because he has speed, more than Harper had, and therefore the coaches are prepared to try to revive his faltering career.

As experienced Webster ites we know he goes with the tried and true and is loyal to his Vets.

I think Inch is no chance as you say vs that Trio but Linane is a special case.

I could believe that Linane has been brought in with a potential NRL debut this season on the basis that Webster is looking like he wants speed and dynamism out there.

Rather than threatening CHT RTS TT in the short term I think Linane is a threat to Te Maire Martin in a 14 debut scenario.

The reason I say that is that Cappy really wanted Linane at the Warriors, so much so that he publicly came out and said he is star signing, and he managed to convince the Warriors to go after a busted player.

“His outstanding qualities as a player are his running game and his speed. We look forward to developing him in our system and giving him every opportunity.

He’s an exceptional talent and a terrific young man,” said One New Zealand Warriors general manager recruitment, pathways and development Andrew McFadden.

Exceptional talent is not a phrase you see thrown around by our coaches in this regime, they really believe in this guy, they think he is going to be a star.

We really look forward to giving him every opportunity.....I think that one statement when read after the calling this guy outstanding talent is where the Warriors view Linane, they think he is another Metcalf, they think they got him early, they think they have a future superstar halves pairing - and they have Nathan Cleary's little brother in reserve.

Certainly you can see how if they inject a fast running five eight in Te Maire's cameo slot - drop CHT to dummy half for ten to fifteen minutes, a role he looks great in for Samoa.

With Linane signing and placing Metcalf at seven it is now clear our plan is to have the fastest halves in the NRL.

Which tells you their plan is creating space by second guessing the opposition numbering, with the hope it draws in the opponents to take down Metcalf with their stand off and their edge back rower.

Which gives Metcalf options to draw and pass or kick to Linane and his outsides, or use a cut out ball.

The problem with all the attention on Metcalf as we know is that a shift to Linane offers just as much speed threat to their Center and Winger/fullback, which gives Linane the option of either a short draw to Gannon with pace on hitting that ball, or a pump fake and go ala Metcalf, or a straight ball to Gannon for a cut out to AKP.

That's without even factoring in our Center which we hope is Ali and can run a straight line, put on a shimmy to draw and pass to AKP.

And if you really want to skull fk them in the eye hole you put Leka stacked with Gannon on that side and look like Penrith on the move who look like they have fifteen players when they run set plays on their strong side.

We would instantly have a very fast wide attack - as quick as Brisbane with Walsh or the Raiders or the Panthers and Storm.

And lets not forget that with AKP we have a legitimate cut out ball and let him do all the work player. He has that Xfactor footwork where we can just throw it out there and let him shred as a legit game play.

Also I think that the bench spot for Linane would be a short minutes played thing which fits in with this protect the young guys on debut scenario, I can see the Warriors using that back on the bench role to one day drop Cleary in there or eventually Inch.

The other thing about RTS and CNK is that they are showing signs of age, and Webster has been through that now with Tohu and SJ, he knows he needs to start next year with the older guys, then if they look like SJ and Tohu syndrome 2.0 pull the trigger a third or half a season in and bring in AKP, Linane, Taine - even look at Mellars.

Father time will not be stopped no matter what plans the Coaches have nor dreams the fans foster.

And at least the coaches have experience of that now, they know they have to look to the future, they just had an amazing year of discovery, hell they put Metcalf in the seven and it was a Dally M move.

They unleashed Leka Halasima the most exciting forward in the NRL after ELi Koatoa.

They introduced us to future Warriors Captain Dimitric Vaimunga Sifakula.

They let a Laban back onto the RL world stage, and finished with throwing EIT out there with Stowers Smith.

This is not a coach that is going to be afraid of using new players next season.

2025 was the year Andrew Webster went wild with selections and threw his Cup stars into the NRL.

100% fitness willing Fatialofa plays NRL this season, why? because Andrew Webster now knows that all the hype about the Warriors junior forwards is actually true and he has seen it with his own eyes - a full season of proof, every young forward he used turned out to be an NRL player....when has that ever happened?

Mate, you must’ve been watching the Disney version of the NSW Cup highlights, because he was bang-average in the real cut.

Bloke hasn’t been the same since Talakai folded him up like a camp chair and left him on the turf as a permanent speed bump.

Ali and Rocco level? 🤣🤣🤣

I don't mind if any of the young order force their way into first grade and establish themselves as awesome consistent and improving constantly.

I'm all for a bit of hype too.

But I'm also happy to see the cards fall how they do.

He probably hasn’t heard of Talakai either so no chance he has a clue about that famous performance.

Bro he did what Centers do, ran, passed the ball, put a Winger away for a Try.

No Disney, I farkn hate Mickey mouse.

yeah just to add to earlier thoughts probably a good sign that he didnt play FG. The warriors of old probably would have, just cause hes a kiwi and we signed him. Ruthless mentality but glad he didn’t out and out earn the spot so we moved some vets that could cover and play at a consistent level.

The Mh experience was a success in that regard, all in all happy with the clubs culture.

He looked pretty good to me in Zane's cup highlight vids, I gave up on BarTV because him and Kosi looked like distant blurry stick figures on their one camera. No doubt the young outside backs like Kali would have benefited from his experience on and off the field. Good on him, he did the club proud coming back here after Talakai ruined him.

VC'd him in supercoach that night, he was on something like a 145 points at half time! Fond memories for me, not such much MH!
The second half was basically how Talakai’s career has played out since then unfortunately. Sort of like that performance from Epalahame Lauaki off the bench against the Roosters in 2007. A brief glimpse of a ceiling that’s never been reached again.
