shows you how little NRL form during the season really matters. Storm have been the best side all year for much of the last 2 years but just haven't gotten it done when it matters. This year 3 of the top 4 when origin finished included us, dogs and raiders. All three of us choked big time when it came time for the dance though.

Raiders let in 16 and not halt momentum and that was the end, dogs self inflected with the signing, and we lost 2 key players mid season. Next year We probably have a better clutch halfback if he can stay fit compared to the raiders 7.

Can’t believe the storm forgot to dig deep and just complete their sets before throwing it out wide, they started playing like the roosters

Seeing coaches becoming like players.
They fit certain holes/positions.
What you say is what some people said about Brian McLennan: Give him a premiership winning roster and he'll get you that Premiership. Of course, the Warriors didn't listen to that and signed him up for 3/4 seasons....Didn't last 1. Will Madge last 3/4 at the Broncos if there's a serious player exit?

I think Madge will have an off year in 26 or 27 and the media pressure will lead to him getting sacked, his training style probably won’t be sustainable for those players especially after winning one now

Winning a prem still involves a lot of luck with injuries no doubt. I think if Mets and Barney hadn't gotten those ACLs, we would have stayed top 4 and had a chance to make a really push this year. TBF Raiders were never that convincing. Like us, I swear most of their wins this year were 1-12 pts and never really put teams away. Dogs were never going to win the comp with their pack with/without the Galvin signing. He's just a convenient punching bag.

As for the storm, they clearly have changed their DNA since the Cam Smith years when they were much more Penrith like in their grinding approach. Now they're more off-the-cuff and expansive. Not sure if the changes are for the best as they haven't won a premiership since Cam smith retired.

that's a big if. the biggest issue with metcalf is his health. acl this year, broken leg last year. if he has another big injury then we might be regretting that big contract.

yeah. That's what happened at Souths. Great 2 year period (2013-2014) before they all got tired of his flogging act and fell off a cliff. Definitely can't see a Broncos 4 peat.

yeah like with any major sports competition, avaiability is key. i still think we are at least 2 years away from winning a prem. our attacking style is just too robotic and has no flare like the broncos. looking at the cup boys today the way they play footy is such a breath of fresh air. i hope webby is taking notes since he was at accor. we need to change things up and not just do 1 outs.

Well done Broncos. Walsh is a superstar and single handedly got them back in the game and the win. To think they played in the grand final in 2023 - which I had forgotten they were in - and to make the grand final again this year and win it is a helluva achievement. Its one thing to make it to the grand final but its another thing to win it. 2011 is a long time ago. We and the Titans are the only teams that haven't won a premiership yet. I'm thinking 2027-2029 will be our best chance to win one. We just gotta be patient and our time will come.

If the Broncos style of play is how a team wins the NRL , we are miles away from playing that style .
Something to think about over the off season ..
They've also had the nucleus of that side for at least 4-5 years. Same with Melbourne. We're still at a development stage. But if the state championship belting is a sign of anything, it's that we will have the players in the pipeline to be able to play that expansive style too.

Real coming of age for Reece Walsh the later stages of this year and living up to the hype. Not a fan but I’d say he’s overtaken Nathan Cleary as the best right now

As good as 1989 @Mr. Brownstone ?

Outstanding Grand Final. One for the ages. Reece Walsh unbelievable try he scored. "Be Great" on his shoes. Unbelievable match.
Nah not close to 89, however easily the best individual performance from a player in a GF. Haven’t read the rest of the thread however it was almost Reece Walsh vs Melbourne Storm. Thought plenty of the other Broncos were very ordinary.

Even 2023 was a bit of an eye opener that teams can go up another level. In that semi final it felt like they ran over the top of us.

Yes Penrith had success grinding sides down but they had points in them as well.

The last few years there have been a lot of big games with a lot of quick points, or teams using the ball.
