Current Affairs 🌡️ Weather / climate change

It's really funny reading this thread for a few reasons:

1. You've got climate change deniers imagining they're free thinking individualists by denying the "mainstream" science, when actually they're thinking very precisely what the richest people in the world have spent decades paying a lot of money to make them think. They literally could not be more obedient to power if they tried.

2. The climate change denialists have won! We're doing bugger all to reduce emissions. We WILL see somewhere between 3 and 6 degrees warming by the end of the century. And the denialists are going to keep stubbornly denying while their insurance premiums skyrocket (if they can get insurance at all), and the roads they depend on are abandoned because they can't be replaced every five years. (No need to go into the really serious consequences).

Like climate change is really bad. But a small little silver lining is watching the chickens coming home to roost for the denialists while they keep denying because who wants to admit they were played and hoodwinked?
💯 well put.

NZWarriors.com

Civilisation has operated under a very specific climate for several thousand years.
That was assumed, but also found to be not true. We are finding evidence of human civilisation under ice that has existed for thousands of years.

Göbekli Tepe May push our civilisation timeline back tens or hundreds of thousands of years as well.

Actually I think we can wrap up this column now based on this very correct and succinct post

Strong parallels with the political forums too

Well I'm not sure about dailystar.net, but of course bows have been used in all sorts of climates. We've been hunting and gathering for eons. By civilisation we mean high population densities dependent on agriculture, which depends on a very specific climate.

I thought the world was ending at 1c, 1.5c, 2c,2.5. Oh so it’s 3c now is it?
No serious person said the world was ending at any of those temperatures. The ippc reports have very specific effects with ranges of likelihoods across a variety of emissions reduction scenarios. You should give yourself some credit and argue against something other than a straw man.

Now’s a good time for the Doomer Boomers top ten.

“The battle to feed all of humanity is over. In the 1970s and 1980s hundreds of millions of people will starve to death in spite of any crash programs embarked upon now.”

— Paul Ehrlich, The Population Bomb

It's not hard to find someone who said something wrong once. Again, give yourself some credit and argue against some peer-reviewed studies, against ippc reports etc.

The Ice Age

1970, the Boston Globe ran with a chilling headline, “Scientist Predicts A New Ice Age By 21st Century.
Yes and scientists have said we'd be in flying cars and eating capsules containing all we need instead of regular food, and living in colonies on the moon. You've proved some scientists have made poor predictions at various points in history. And?

Deeply concerning to read about the gas supply crisis we face in NZ.
No doubt those who are true believers in the climate church will be smiling because they see the demise of gas as a victory. Gas can be replaced with "renewables" they will tell us.
Sadly they don't seen to understand its not just energy but many, many other products, vital to our survival, will also be lost.
One such product is urea. No gas means no urea. No urea means no grass.
Simply put the NZ farmer provides the protein and fibre requirements of 40-50 million people worldwide. It addition to feeding & clothing these people the revenue earned pays for almost everything the climate cult take for granted.
Yes we can import urea but at a much higher cost than we produce it in NZ. The beef, sheep and dairy farmers of Australia, Argentina, Ireland and elsewhere will be laughing all the way to the bank as NZ agriculture looses a major competitive edge and the standard of living of everyday kiwis drops to the very bottom of the OECD.

I have saved MaybeTop8 and GS time by writing their responses below.
I also asked Dame Jacinda Ardern for her comment on the consequences of her "captains call" and I have added that at the bottom

MaybeTop8 : "Just a bunch of misinformation from rednecks, flat earthers, climate deniers and anti-vaxes "

GS : " We don't need farmers, there is plenty of food in the supermarket"

Dame JA: "Let them eat cake"

You're wrong. There you go

Deeply concerning that all of the focus has been on profit extraction and fossil fuels and nothing on renewables or building a resilient supply and infrastructure in New Zealand eh.

Because that's not profitable for the multi nationals. Text book neoliberalism - Sell off the natural assets to your mates, strip them bare, send the profits offshore, push the cost of cleanup onto the public, then fuck off leaving us to pick up the pieces.

And yet, and yet, you somehow find it in you to blame the mythical left.

Start in your own backyard, your fellow right wing travellers seem to be a major cause.

Also, at least there's some mention of the fact that THE EARTH HAS FINITE RESOURCES.

Maybe one day all this will sink in, but no doubt there'll be another layer of disinformation to blame the homeless, the indigenous, the women, the left or some other scapegoat.
