I always saw you as more of a HAL , I don't trust you.
Chur bro, I get where you’re coming from, but I’m no HAL 9000 plotting mutiny – I’m just here for the footy banter and to back our Dark Blue, Red & Green. No secret agendas hidden in my circuits, honest. Sweet as? Now let’s drop the sci-fi drama and yarn about the Warriors’ next game – reckon we’ll storm home with a big win?

Though for the day:

I see our key players this season as Barnett, JFH, Clarke, Egan, CNK for their performance on the field, leadership and standards that they set. Those players perform at 100% week in, week out.

Every other player is important but replaceable in our system.

If several of those key players go down at once, I can see our resilience being stretched and games slipping away from us.

What’s peoples thoughts on those key players?

Wow… feel a bit deflated now, I was sure we had a 99% chance of finals already 🤣

Nah that chart looked weird, Eels still made top 4 in 2022

It’s chance of top 4 still staying top 4 at the end

Side note Broncos were in top 4 in R12 and R19, ended up falling out of top 8 at the end

So really only Souths and Dolphins missed the top 8, that’s 2/20 ie 90% playing knockout football

We have more than serviceable replacements for each player on your list

I’d probably say Clarke is the hardest to replace but honestly if you gave the keys to Leka for ball handling duties he would probablythrive in the role and be an absolute monster on attack. Hes got good hands and can offload at will

And JFH is proof our coverage is strong.. Provided they don’t all go down at once we’ll manage without them just fine

In the case of Fleet Cleary, there is the thinking that his progress through to the NRL (at the Panthers ) is restricted by the presence of his star brother. This is accentuated by the fact that he plays in the same position. His progress through the Warrior ranks will be interesting if he makes the NRL team on his merits (which going on form is likely in the short term rather than the long). Who knows, his presence with us might encourage his father to take up a coaching/mentoring role with the Warriors when his other famous son moves on. After all, the challenge of repeating his success at Penrith might be attractive as he returns to where his coaching career began. I have just finished reading his autobiography (so far) where he wrote that he and his family enjoyed their time in NZ and that he wanted to stay on as coach but the Warriors would not extend his contract (the now foolishness of that decision is obvious).
Jett wants to play for a club that will be playing in the finals this season so he left the Panthers to come to the Wahs. ;)

You didn't list Metcalf and cht? But suppose you wanted to draw the line somewhere.

My thought for the day which ties in with your thought for the day is depth.

This weekend the following people are playing who are not in our first choice 17 for game one
Laban
Taine
Bunty
Healey

They will not be liabilities. While in past years our depth players have been liabilities.

Having Taine in particular as a utility reserve to come into our back line have been worth its weight in gold.
In past years our back line depth reserve was that centre from England whose name escapes me but he was awful and only played two games.

It honestly would not surprise me if the main bench webster is going for by mid to late year is: Healey, Marata, Demetric, Ford. Bit of a shame that Laban is missing out, but if he gets good game time now, maybe later in the year he can take on a full 80 min slot when injuries occur.

I believe the players I listed are the heart of the team and bring a resilience that make those around them better than the parts.

All other players are valuable but not replaceable including the halves.

We’ve won many games this year because of those players I mentioned laying a foundation. We dont win without them putting in game changing performances. Our halves are the icing on the top playing off that platform.
