Pick Your Team Warriors v Cowboys - [Round 9, 2025]

NZWarriors.com

I wouldn't play DWZ until he is 100% ready to go. If it's touch and go, I'd just go with the team that went out last week:
1. CNK
2. TT
3. Berry
4. Ali
5. Pompey
6. CHT
7. Mets
8. Niukore
9. Egan
10. Barney
11. Leka
12. Capewah
13. Erin
14. Ford
15. Demi
16. Bunty
17. Laban
Agree on DWZ. Disagree on Niukore - the prop experiment was a bust and I like what he's bringing this year, although I think he adds more off the bench - switch him out w Bunty above. The more threats we have across the park w. Leka, Vaimanga the less they'll be able to double team him.

I don't think we can make judgements on the Marata to middle experience based on the last game given that Marata was binned for 10 and then went off for HIA. He gives us much needed size/aggression in the middle, so I'm willing to give him that spot until JFH comes back (next game I think). When JFH comes back, I'd be open to pushing Marata onto the bench, alongside Ford, Demi and Bunty. Unfortunately Laban is probably the one to drop out when JFH comes back.

I was thinking more last year when he bulked up and slowed down and it blunted his impact. As long as he stays leaner and as fast as he can reasonably be I'm good with him dancing in the middle for a bit.
I thought Laban would carve it up after his magic form in NSW, but he's looked a bit tentative. I'm confident he'll make it in FG, and hopeful he'll smash it in time, but I think the coaching staff have got it right moving ahead with Leka and Demi 1st.

Last year was a bit of a muck up with Marata imo.

He had a pretty good 2023 as an edge. Then trained as a middle/prop all off season, looked good in a trial then got injured. Came back Rd 4 and then injured himself again, and came back in Rd 12 and got pushed back to an edge where he looked slow and lethargic - likely a hang over from training in the middle for the last 6 months.

We started to see a little of what he can do on an edge this year, a few tries running good lines and he's looked damaging with ball in hand and on defence, but has now been moved to prop again so imo will likely struggle a little bit.
Imo he's not worth the 800k or so we're paying him but I do think he's been mucked around and hasn't had much opportunity to cement his spot for the last 2 years.

I can also see the value in a Leka/Niukore backrow pairing as we had v broncos. That's probably our best attacking edge backrow and it really did a job on the Broncos backrow that night. Capes can come on from the bench when Leka/Niukore gets fatigued.

Might work if Leka/Marata play 40min each, Capewell 80min on the left unless Laban's on the bench.

Was surprised Leka had less than 40min vs Knights unless I saw the wrong thing

Capewell is having a purple patch of form in attack with his tackle breaks.

Also you lose the glue in the defence by having Leka without Capewell as starters.

Lastly as your potential eighty minute forward in case there are injuries, it works better if Capewell has the potential to carry eighty minutes of the load (meaning he starts).
