Having rewatched the second half, I really didn't appreciate how much damage the Berry injury made not only to our edge defense but also our forward rotation. Shifting Capes to the centers, at one pt both Egan and Healey were both on the field at the same time. So Healey must have been playing in the middle, which just shows how much strife we were in at that pt. Truly epic performance to hold out quite possibly the best attack in the comp.

Also, Capes was massive. Really picked up in form in the last 2 weeks. Really aggressive in defense and on attack ran some amazing lines for the first try. Everyone in the pack is lifting in the absence of JFH.

Maybe why Healey was also brought on to shore up the D line so the edges could spread more. He came on in the last 15 - don’t know who he subbed but I was surprised we managed to hold the line so long

Might have been Ford? He played 44min, need to check when he came off. We ended with Leka/Marata edge, Barney/Clark then Demetric props and Healey lock then for Egan

Not an expert but maybe leg speed from whoever at 13 was too slow and tired so we lost the rucks and delayed the drift leading to edge meltdown on the right against a top offense. Healey then Clark back to 13 fixed it up then we had the epic TT 50m run too

They need to look at the rotation again as Afoa played 11 min and Healey like 14 while the defense was clearly murdering our energy

I’ve been on this rodeo too many times to get too carried away…..

I’ve been watching since 97 on and off what the owner/coach are doing is the real deal (for a challenge right now anyway), that was championship defense of playoff quality at the end and champion teams win the most tight games, dont recall any 6:2 start this nerve wrecking ever, and lots of upside to go with good depth and a 4x premiership winning by captain.

Berry 100% tackle rate before injury

In the second half i had Taine & Capewah on my side of ther field. I could hear Capewah organising the defense, Telling Taine to stay and calling Marata to slide. Marata would hold, Then slide as quick as he could (Which was slow lol) Taine didn't hold, He shot out everytime to try cut the ball off. Capewah would then try to cover. And eventually Marata hauled his big over to make a good cover tackle.

What got me is how slow Charnze was when these set plays towards Capewah & Taine were being made. Either , He was on the other side of the feild or casually making his way over to cover.
I noticed our young bull Leka got shifted over capes & taines side the last quarter of the game? That's how much faith the coaches have in Leka's ability at such a young age to try and shore up the defense on that side.
That kid is something special. Every other nrl fan forum i go on they all ask if they can poach him!? Lol.

Mets Has arrived. I have doubted that kid. No more! Incredible on attack & defense. Please let someone else take the goal kicks tho.

That is crazy speed to be getting to his feet and playing the ball. Was something that I noticed how fast we bounce back to our feet when tackling to get to marker. We look really fit and well conditioned

Given what happened on the injury front during the second half, looking at the overall stats is not that meaningful for us. At the 56th minute mark, when they scored to go 30-16, we had outrun them 1200-700 and were dominating them in every stat. That Berry injury fucked everything up for us, including our forward rotation. Funnily enough, the wet weather which we thought of as benefitting us may have actually benefitted the cows since that injury probably doesn't happen on a dry pitch.

Yep I agree regarding CNK. Love him and all that he brings and there’s a place in the team somewhere, even if that’s depth but I think fullback is needing an upgrade

Let him learn his goal kicking we need that confidence he has to step up and smash those 50m.

Notice him and the ref last week refer to Vaimauga as Demi. Made me laugh when Erin Clark gave Gee a serve and he said all right Erin, relax. He’s staunch as Clark and you can tell he doesn’t cope with accolades well listening to him after the game
