How so? CHT had significantly more receipts & 50% more kicks in general play. Metcalf was very good last night but actually had less involvement, offensively, than previous games

You know what? You're absolutely right. I only just had a look at the stats.

I saw increases in the weeks prior, how dominant he was on his individual attack last night and assumed the numbers would match up.

Fair play for calling me out on that.

Not sure if it was deliberate or luck but that break only to get tackled centimetres away from the touch line was good field awareness. He had a go trying to do it with his speed and it was the right option because the inside man was covered. He’s finding confidence in his running game from week to week and on field kicking is good. Probably not setting up as many tries as some halfbacks but it’s working between him and CHT. Goal kicking is slowly coming along but he backs himself at least

Alternative solution?

Nah like, actually give me any answer….
Anything…….. (this is open to anyone btw, not just you)

What is it we are waiting for?
Who are these players lining up to play for the Warriors?

Btw, Metcalf can negotiate with other clubs by November. He’ll be getting offers, 100%.
And I dare say, someone will give him a significant pay increase.

Lock him down, give him his money.

Alternative solution

Maybe CG is waiting to use that war chest on signing Manu or Ponga

Do you use your cap space on potential or proven stars???

If he’s happy where he is and tells Webby this then it’s all about trust

We can wait until the end of the season rather than making it a distraction

Eyes on the prize

Very tricky situation for us. Metcalf is playing well and we're winning. BUT, he's not really playing as a controlling, dominant half and that's the kind of money he's going to be commanding if we continue to win.

Not quite 10 games into his career as a stsrting halfback, I feel he's worth about 700k or so, but I have a feeling we'll need to pay him a little more than that to get him over the line. But, giving him $1 mil seems pretty nuts. Unfortunately halves are going to be at a premium soo , especially with the 2 new teams coming in so we could see middle of the road halves fetch 700-900k.
Yes mate. Very interesting times with expansion and 7s being a position that teams can be built around and very few good 7s available. Plus the ones who must be coming up for retirement.
You could also argue that Metcalf would be more valuable than Brown currently.
Let's hope we can retain Metcalf

We have people the last few months worrying about a release.

It is always going to be a risk with Australian players. Especially after having a child.

The best the club can do is make sure she has a support network around his partner. Especially when she doesn't have family across visiting or when the team is travelling. Obviously that would only be during the day time so his partner will still have to deal with the night with a new born.

If she is finding it hard and they need to look to move on. Yes, due to this years form he would be in a good bargaining position. It can also be flipped to would it work out so well at another club? The Warriors have shown a lot of faith in him with the rehab in the States. The coach has likely done a lot of work with him. He has been given a marque position in an NRL side. Those spots are limited. Is there another club he'd walk straight into? Maybe Dragons and Souths.

The best the club can do is to make Metcalf and his partner happy in Auckland. At the moment he's happy.

I know we have had players wanting releases in the past. We can't shy away from signing Australians. We just need to provide a set up in Auckland that could cover some situations.

Townsend for example was released as there was an illness in the family. The best you can do there is encourage travel. But that is a more realistic reason for a release. Having a child is different to me after recently raising two boys away from family it is doable.

Contract time it's different but the best we can do is provide a competitive offer and review the development he has had here and where we sings things going.

That’s why I was encouraged to see this the other day, given the family friendly culture they’re building I won’t be surprised if the girls and moms in the Warriors community would be helping Aussie young families out here, plus you don’t need that Sydney glamor and night life when you’ve got a bubs and wife to take care of in your spare time. Plenty of parents raise their kids in different cities or countries so…they could probably extend him during the 2 quick bye rounds we have, don’t need a 10 year type deal though cuz players can always pull a compassionate release

He decided to run more which shows how lethal it can be, probably opened up the field for others or CHT’s side too, and love he threw away any back pedaling now

Has great chemistry with Capewell, needs work on with timing to Leka, goal kicking will improve he has the chops just need consistency and reading the conditions, and field goals, has any team tried to just construct a try close to the line with the defense constantly rushing and get away with it?

So your alternative solution is…..
Maybe CG is trying to sign Manu or Ponga?
Ok, maybe lol

I’m happy for Webby, Cappy and CG to take their time with it. Or get it over the line tomorrow. Just as long as it gets done.

The only contentious thing I feel is money…..
The thing is, I doubt upgrading Metcalf will blow out our cap.
He’s already being paid something, it’s not a new player. I’d be happy with 850k-1 mil.

If 1 million is what it takes to keep him. I’d pay it.
If he stays at the same level he is now. Other clubs will be offering at least in the 800s. We’ll probably have to pay more. Geography sucks sometimes.

We’ve lost.
AFB (JFH on a little less)
Tohu (Erin on way less)
SJ
Walker.
We’ve got plenty of cap.

Plus Niukore, Capewell and RTS will be gone by the end of next year.

I’d even upgrade CHT tbh, around 600ish.
3-4 good seasons with a settled halves combo will only be a good thing IMO.

I was surprised too. Thought it was going to be the 50/50'ish split we'd seen prior. I guess a lot of CHT's play goes unnoticed
CHT has been holding the pairing together IMO so far this season. I think he is hugely underrated or certainly not getting the acknowledgement he deserves. I also thought Metcalf had his best half of football last night on the back of our dominance, cowboys errors and their defensive issues. If he can continue to build on that, particularly when he doesn't have everything in his favour, and be more consistent we will be in a good space. Talk about giving him $1mil a season based on that is a bit over the top though IMO.
That’s what I love about this forum

We lose - sack them all!!
We win - sign him up for another 5 years!!!
A good half of football= give him a million. If he turns up for the whole game next week against the dragons then we will have seen good progress.

All it takes is a string of loses and bad plays from Metcalf to change the narrative...
If the Webby saga taught me anything its patience and wait to see how things play out by the end of the season...

You'd pay him a cool mill over getting Ponga or Manu ?...........
LM's manager must be hoping someone picks this comment up so he can go with it during negotiations
