General Your 2025 team

No it's the fact that's he's the only true halfback we have that has played there most of his playing career.

I don't think Martin is our 7. I think the club knows that, that's why they went and got Boyd.

We need to settle on a halves pairing and he's got more going for him than Martin i think.

Martin and Harris Tavita are back ups at best.

One other thing, if cames are close and it's field goal time, I trust Boyd the most.

When I look at his contribution in 2024, and that he’s a Kiwi international I can’t see how he’s not selected? 16 games, 5 tries, 16 try assists and 14 line break assists to go with a respectable 86% tackle efficiency. Mostly played halfback from round 11 onwards when looking at this and led the managed the team well in our best performances of the season, the exception being him at five eighth in an impressive win over rabbits. Looks to me like a player coming into his best years at 29 and seeing the game with vision and timing

Love TMM’s ball playing, but it really puts heat on the other half to have a good long kick game … could it be a combo that works with Boyd?

I don't think so. I think Metcalf is locked in at 6. I seriously don't think he is a 7. So for me it's between TMM and Boyd for 7. I think TMM deserves first crack at it given the way he played this season at 7 filling in and often with a makeshift team around him. A long kicking game didn't appear to be an issue in that run of games. I actually don't mind Boyd as a depth signing and he'll likely get a good number of games in the season but I think you will get a similar result as we did with SJ this year. Long kicks but limited attack and creativity.

My currently revised team for round 1

Walker
Clark
Prince
Lussick
High probablilty that could be the interchange Webby runs out with, but geez the Lussick pick always strikes me as a waste of a bench spot.......especially when you have Walker and Clark if Egan needs a 10 minute spell or so (yes i understand thats not their roles these days).

Then again that 4th bench spot generally under Webby gets very minimal game time anyway,

Yup, I think the majority agree that Egan needs a break during games but AW tends to not use Lussick enough to do that. I'm thinking of the season a little bit like Bathurst. You have to get through to the last stint and still have enough left to push on. 2023 I think we pushed all we could to get to the last stint and didn't have enough left. 2024 we tried to keep going with a busted car instead of taking the pitstop and using fresh tyres. Regardless of who starts round one, if Webster doesn't rotate players at key times in games and during the season then we are back to square one. Egan is one of those players that needs it IMO

As people keep putting TT, CNK and RTS in there team list. I hope they don't... The team is larger than the 17 players on the feild. If/when there is an injury, i hope they pull someone out of NSW grade in to keep our combinations as similar as possible. Rather than shifting 1-3 players around so we get the best NSW grade player in instead of the correct one.

While I agree with you, I think AW has shown he doesnt like doing that at all

I get what you mean but we had an awful year for injuries.
Round 1 -------------------.
CNK injuried -> TT (direct from NSW)
Niukore Injuried -> Tom Ale (direct from NSW)
Round 2 -------------------.
CNK injuried -> TT (direct from NSW)
Niukore Injuried -> Tom Ale (direct from NSW)
Egan Injuried -> Lussick (Althogh he was on round one because egan fucked his elbow. Egan would play the full 80 from round 4 until round 10, and then only round 15, 18, 20, and 23. So therefore becuase lussick would mainly be NSW grade ill keep him there for this)
Round 3 -------------------.
CNK injuried -> TT (direct from NSW)
Niukore Injuried -> Tom Ale (direct from NSW)
Egan Injuried -> Lussick (direct from NSW)
Walker Injuried -> Jazz (Played NSW round 1, 18th man round 3)
Round 4 ------------------.
CNK injuried -> TT HIA -> RTS (moved from center to cover fullback)
RTS repositioned -> Pompey (direct from NSW)
Walker Injuried -> Jazz (direct from NSW)
Round 5 -----------------.
DWZ injuried -> RTS repositioned
RTS repositioned -> Pompey (direct from NSW)
Capewell HIA -> Barnett repositioned
Barnett repositioned -> Bunty/Laban (direct from NSW)
Metcalf injuried -> TMM (direct from NSW)
Niukore Injuried -> Tom Ale (direct from NSW)
Walker Injuried -> Jazz (direct from NSW)
Round 6 ----------------.
Bunty injuried -> Laban (direct from NSW)
Metcalf injuried -> TMM (direct from NSW)
Niukore Injuried -> Tom Ale (direct from NSW)
Walker Injuried -> Jazz (direct from NSW)
Round 7 ----------------.
Bunty injuried -> Laban (direct from NSW)
Metcalf injuried -> TMM (direct from NSW)
Niukore Injuried -> Tom Ale (direct from NSW)
Walker Injuried -> Jazz (direct from NSW) injuried -> Pompey/Paul Roche? (direct from NSW)
CHT Injuried -> Pompey/Paul Roche? (direct from NSW)
Round 8 ---------------.
Capewell injuried -> Laban (direct from NSW)
Bunty injuried -> Zyon Maiu’u (direct from NSW)
Metcalf injuried -> TMM (direct from NSW)
Niukore Injuried -> Tom Ale (direct from NSW)
CHT Injuried -> Paul Roche? (direct from NSW)

So after just going on the first 8 rounds. For the most part it looks like main squad was replaced with NSW grade people. It's just our depth was tested all over the place. I mean we did have the 2nd worst rate for injuries. And i'd arugue we probably played with more injuries than the rabbits did.

On another note was interesting to compile. WIll probably do the whole year now tbh. Very thankful to who ever built this:

Hey much respect for pulling this together we should do one of these every year and keep them for reference purposes.

So 4th most injury hit? Along with South’s, Eels and Dragons who all also missed the top 8 (coincidence?)

I think our injury toll was worse than the stats by who it affected - SJ and Harris 2 of our most key players and the amount of games players played injured that are not reflected in the stats.

I read an article 5 years ago that says you must go well with injuries if you want to win the premiership.

I would personally have the team doing pilates and stretching two to three times per week, to at least reduce ham string pulls.

Ahh. The folly of stats strikes again.
Yeah stats are useful but that don't tell the full story sometimes you need a feel for the game. Just like the great Yogi Berra said.

You can observe a lot by watching.

One reason we didn't make the 8 was. We made too many wrong mistakes.

We need to play under fatigue as Baseball rugby league is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical.

I argue that eg hit ups off your own try line are worth twice those in the opposition 20.
Just one example.
For a starter in most cases you first have to make the effort to get back to your own line.

And if they could all do those Nordic hamstring things then we might have a chance

We couldn't maintain our top form in any game that I remember. We were blowing gaskets left right and centre when we would hit our top form. Like that Melbourne game when Coates got that acrobatic try.

while this is cool, where else is a player coming from? they have to come from NSW. A better example would be did the cup player start or come off the bench..

Nah that is fair and my bad. I should of included the position in the stat table. But for the most part it was saying that the only time players within the 17 shuffled around instead of promoting from the NSW grade for the first 7 rounds was...

Round 4 where CNK and TT were both out. Making RTS move from centers to fullback.
Round 5 where we had 6 out injuried. Making RTS move from from centers to wing because of DWZ. And barnett covering capewell, which feels a little silly because of the amazing 2nd rowers we have in NSW cup. But i don't think that was figured out untill later in that season.
To help prove that webby i think was trying to promote from NSW rather than shuffling around the 17 to fill in postions, but this year just turn sour quick in that department because injuries.

But nah thank you that is a fair shout. Am still compiling a greater full season list. But i think it's a great idea to have who i think we're webby's starting 17. Which would be quite the assumption because we did not have a single round where less than 3 of our "key" players were injuried.

Ahh. The folly of stats strikes again. 😉
Not blaming injuries but at times our structure, lack of attack options and composure at key moments looked like second stringers trying to do their best.

Particularly in the halves and backs. CHT perfect example.

Having said that good teams handle adversity and have a next man up mentality where the reserves slot in a whole lot more seamlessly than we manage.
