Pick Your Team Warriors v Manly - [Round 2, 2025]

NZWarriors.com

Good to see you starting to get on board mate
Reading that article you posted, it seems likely that TMM isn’t apart of the Warriors future and won’t be extended? Think the telling part is where Webster says TMM is a big part of 2025, and not TMM is a big part of our future. It reads like he isn’t even in consideration unless someone absolutely shits the bed or injury? It seems like they are keen to persist with Metcalf at 7 for whatever reason? TMM got something else lined up? Is there a 6 we think would be handy to Metcalf’s 7? I feel like Metcalf is probably in his long term role where they’d hope it works out, but I don’t feel like CHT is?

He didnt have a good game. He is still learning and will only get better. He has been given the keys and has to be persevered with. Atleast he did not become invisible like some other players do as their main super power.
Was Metcalf playing on the weekend? We already know that TMM goes well at 7. Metcalf has a long, long way to go to get anywhere near to the level. Hopefully he improves because that performance was dreadful. No point giving him the keys if he can't even drive yet.

Yup, anyone can read what they want in to the article. The most telling part is AW hasn't picked him at 7 despite what he did for us in that position last year. Plenty of people scratching their heads over it particularly after that round 1 game. That's AWs prerogative of course, but I can see pressure will continue to mount as the games go by. Also interesting that TMM is featured a fair amount in the clubs social media which you wouldn't expect if he is that far down in the clubs estimation?

Tmm should be given another go at 7.
AW is struggling with the fact he went missing a lot last year
Trials again were a chance to try him out

Metcalf will become a great half... maybe let Pomps deal with kicking duties right now.
LM has enough to learn as it is. Example, reading the game and making snap decisions.
Attacking combos with the spine, last tackle kick options plus 40-20s.
Defence structures.... to say the least..
Alot of this shit he already does and does it well.. just needs to adjust to 1st grade intensity. After all he hasn't had many games under his belt yet...

Not picking him at 7 is one thing, but not picking him at 6 either seems odd being the most experienced halve on the books. Then to factor in he’s off contract at the end of the season and used at fullback in a trial is looking like he’s either not viewed in the halves or not viewed in their future? Perhaps CHT’s left boot is winning him the spot at the moment at 6, but it seems like there’s a genuine persistence to continue with Metcalf at 7. I guess we’ll find out if they abort the plan if it gets dire enough, but can’t go on too long either or the season is a write off. Unless the plan is to get Metcalf accustomed to the role no matter the results?

I think the right call was made not to play him at 6 but the wrong call not to play him at 7. It's going to be an interesting season and whether AW will break if the performance continues to be poor. Will also be interesting to see fans reactions to a second season of poor play if that does eventuate. If Metcalf is the future 7 AW needs to take some heat for not developing him as one. There has been no succession planning for the inevitable SJ retirement and now when we have TMM who has shown he can play that role available, he is instead forcing LM in to it with a learn as you go approach. Pretty poor IMO.

The clubs socials first and foremost are propaganda, don’t forget that.

Notice we all start questioning Berry, nek minnit ohh he’s close as 🙄

Indeed. Seemed to be at pains to communicate that they had made the right call with Metcalf at 7.

With a new halfback, youd think there could be merit in playing the most experienced guy at 6, just to be a guiding figure on the field, or perhaps they really thought Metcalf was going to hit the ground running and CHT completed him best? They were happy to play TMM 6 to SJ 7, why not play him 6 to Metcalf 7? With CNK 86 or so run metres, TMM must come into consideration at fullback if halves isn’t where he’s viewed

I think that's exactly what they thought in regards to LM hitting the ground running. They played TMM outside SJ while Metcalf was injured. But then they played TMM at 7 in cup with LM 6 when he returned from injury last season. Who really knows what they are thinking. Certainly was a lack of forward planning. Add in a very conservative coach and we get a team with very little spark. Hopefully they can turn things around quickly, but I have big reservations about whether they can and the next run of games arent easy. Metcalf and the rest of the team are going to have to step up big time and quickly or the Storm are going to put plenty on us in a few weeks time.

No go forward from our pack which is supposedly our strength.
This.

Probably the most concerning aspect from that game. We already knew we were going into this season under gunned in the halves and backs. The forward pack was where we thought we might have an edge or at least gain parity with other teams. The way the Raiders were able to poke their heads through the ruck (even their little blokes) and being unable to handle or stop the Raiders offloads got them quality front foot ball and had us scrambling. Add to this the inability of both our 2nd rowers to shorten up the opposition defensive line and yeah.....i mean im a TMM for 7 and Tauapiki to 1 advocate but unless we see a seismic improvement from that pack it'll just be changing deck chairs on the Titanic.

I think he showed enough in the trial to consider who would compliment him the best, and CHT will be around a while if he isnt replaced.

With hindsight an experienced half would have been the choice but after the storm trial it look like Metcalf could control the team.

There is also the option that TMM may not want to stay or even play league next year and this might be he has already told the club so they are going with the half pairing for next year. Just speculation on that tho

De javu reading this thread for some reason lol, TBH won’t be wasting time watching this year if even we can see with not elite resources, the best 7 is not in the team and not supported by the coach (while a few other teams would love his service), the best 1 is on the wing, the current 1 had his second career worst performance in 6 months, the best prop is playing lock, so the coach’s pet can play, ahead of Laban and Ale who are nowhere near the 17

I thought to myself against these good teams we need to play with good strategy and chemistry to have a chance, and they played rubbish instead in front of a huge “home” crowd, it really gave me a little 66:6 vibe on Gold Coast

If Metcalf is the permanent 7 then let me know when he reaches 50 games and matures into a FG halfback, why am I watching them wasting the last peak years of Barney and Fish? There are better things to do than watching people in their bubble congrats themselves while going 3:15 doing the same thing and expect different results

It was super weird seeing photos of the team walking through a sea of supporters (12,000?) Like this club has not won a comp for 30 years and came off a horrible season, and receives this kind of fanfare for…not achieving anything? 😂 Great for photo ops but I am not a 15 year old searching for 3 second thrills on tiktok, I am getting too old for 80 minute of suffering watching the current and future potentials getting wasted

Rant over 😂🤦
