Usually it takes six rounds.

I don't expect any changes to the side till after round six. I think fans tend to forget that these coaches poured over months and months of work and discussion points leading to round one around the game plan and the roster to deliver it.

I would rather the coaches backed their beliefs and stuck with them for six games than be reactive like fans tend to be.

One of our major problems has been a lack of consistency and the coaches and owner know this. Either due to constantly sacking coaches or bad injury runs season after season.

The only way they solve the consistency issue is to give a stable line up at least six games to gel.

I think Webster has taken enough gambles to satisfy me. He has put Metcalf at seven, that is huge (whether I like it or not it is a VERY bold move).

As the chief play maker Metcalf having no experience there, will need to play with the same team for several weeks to help him adapt.
Johns and Cronk talked about this subject last night.
They said it takes a long time (seasons) to reach being even a good 7.

Something Wayne Bennett does....he sticks with a guy for a long time and lives by success or failure, like Anthony Milford. Or at fullback....he had a pet....no prizes for naming the player.

I think people make the mistake of thinking Bennett had a bias when he was merely playing out his own convictions to the full extent of the experiment.

He certainly followed his coach around that pet. Broncos, knights and dragons

Crystal Ball gazing and foreshadowing better use of the bench rotation this week,
Ford to sub Capewell throughout the game to keep a relatively fresh guy on D against Olakau'atu. Those guys to effectively play a half each but in quarters.

Vaumanga to sub Barnett, Leka for Niukore who then moves to the middle and subs JFH with 15 to go.

Walker on for Clark with Barnett back on for Niukore for the last 10

…you heard it here first 😉

This article has been posted before but interesting the part where Webster says they know they’re a good chance of winning when TMM is playing when he gets his opportunity. Do you think Metcalf gets a certain amount of time and if results aren’t coming, TMM goes to 7? Although Boyd seems to be the backup 7, TMM isn’t the first choice 6 either obviously. Would TMM go to 7 even before Boyd if it’s not working with Metcalf at 7?

I'm not sure this games going to sell out & likely that streak will be dead.

I guess moving the south stand to allocated seating and bumping the price across the board has put an end to that ( and the whump wah of vegas)

I think Metcalf has been given the 7 because he is gone if he doesn't. With the difficulty of recruiting Aussies, a young half will look at the Warriors if they know they can get an opportunity that they otherwise wouldn't.

Metcalf sees himself as a 7 as he has said many times.

The Warriors can see that he is worth playing at 7 for a period to see what he can build into, and I fully back them on that. I think if he was a Kiwi who was happily living at home he would probably be playing at 6 with TMM at 7.

On SJ to coach, all players need a gap between playing and coaching to shift that relationship between former playing partners.

Start him as a kicking and tactical coach for halves. I don’t see him being head coach material.
If he is in any way interested in being a head coach he needs years learning how to do it. Preferably at another club. One that has a successful system and a winning coach.
Then if he's any good he can come back and show what he can do.
Otherwise it's another jobs for the boys role at Mt Smart and we have seen over the last 30 years how that works out

I hate to cop out here in regards to your questions, but after last season where TMM was given a genuine go, I suspect there are off field issues with TMM and or on field issues that made Webster go away from the experiment of him at seven.

If not then his non selection makes zero sense and I do not see Webster as a man who makes these kinds of zero logic calls some fans accuse him of.

And to reinforce this point, I point to the preseason trials where TMM reverted to Mr Invisible when asked to play a role at six.

He genuinely seems to have an attitude in support roles. Ergo he is great in spotlight center stage positions like seven and number one.
