I see on NRL 360 tonight that the Warriors had the least number of penalties for head high tackles than any other team. We had only three while other teams such as the Titans and Roosters were around 18. I suspect that is due to the discipline instilled in the team by our coach. I also noticed that the Rabbitohs and Storm were also near the bottom.

If we gave 1 point for a bye would it be better?

Pushes you above teams on the same points but lost an extra game and below teams on the same wins but played an extra game?

I don’t really think there’s any clean solution other than having an even number of teams. Even then the quality of opposition in the draw where you don’t play everyone twice can favour some teams.

Just went back and watched the replay. A few thoughts.

1. Loving that the ref was identifying milking and not having a bar of it (both teams).

2. The two sinbins were caught instantly, but then the onfield ref immediately halted play and conferred with the bunker. To me, this would *potentially* indicate that the onfield refs were instructed to go to the bunker for high tackles early in the game.

From there, no more 'dangerous tackles' were performed, apparently.

3. We had two tries that were left out there. The TT one is a guaranteed put down by DWZ and his superman technique. The Ali one just requires him to grab the ball, instead of trying to pat it down. To me, this indicated we were capable of putting 34 (without conversions) on the Knights, and are frustratingly close to having a fairly decent attack.

4. Another poster labelled TT as the 'nearly' guy and I 100% agree. He always looks so threatening but never quite seems to get through the line. Maybe more leg days are required?

5. It would have been nice to keep the Knights to zero, but given how stacked their lineup is, I'm not too mad that a couple of plays slipped through.

Conclusion; this team is still developing and is heading in the right direction to play finals footy. Patience is, as always, a virtue.

We left 3 tries out there, Charnze's one was denied when Leka bumped with the defender

True.

Backs up my point of how frustratingly close we are to having a decent attack. Experience is our weakness at this point and that shouldn't surprise anyone.
How many tries came from kicks and errors? while its obviously good to score tries anyway you can, my concern is we seem to have a lack of attacking play otherwise. I hope that improves and the Cowboys should be a good test for us too see how we shape up in that area and in an away game.

Surely when we have Roger, DWZ and JFH back and we've figured out how to attack with Leka, I'm really our attack starts to click.

Interestingly, we haven't scored any 'winger' tries on Tuaupiki's (DWZ) side yet, so I see that as a huge attacking plus that comes back into the team.

Tries are tries, but I get your point.

There are improvements to be seen, but it's happening slowly.

I agree they'll need to lift their game against the Cowboys.

All of the no trys looked like set plays that are practiced.
Try 1: CHT kick to ali who pushes it back.
Try 2: CHT kick to pompey with ali wrapping around to his outside.
Both of above look practiced.
Try 3: Egan -> Metclaf -> Clark -> Ford. Metcalf goes deep into the line drawing some defenders, clark catches it just before crashing into the line and somehow with some very good hands passes it off while getting tackled to ford. Both drew in a lot of defenders leaving a massive gap in the line. Looks like a set play.
Try 4: Metcalf intercept into some amazing work by Egan who managed to get the same winger (i think it was shiller) into 3 tackles in a row after the intercept. Which on the 4th allowed him to just run past a very tried winger. Honestly how egan did not get the 6 points is beyond me.
Try 5: Egan -> Metcalf -> CHT -> Pompey. Bad pass by metcalf (If it was meant to go to CHT then it was way off. If it was meant to go to pompey then i don't think the ball had the distance). That somehow was not a knockon and resulted in a try.

So i'd say 3 of the 5 are set plays. With 3 more being very close. Tries like the 5th one might happen every game if we can keep the preasure on. Tries like the 4th one are pretty unlikely to happen no matter the game plan.

Nice summation.

Try 1 - standard short bomb, 50/50 opportunity to win/loss the ball and while it was 12 on 12
Try 2 - similar to try 1 but really poorly defended by the Knights
try 3 - good set. probably one of our best of the night maybe. Poor defence from Fletcher Sharp too
try 4 - intercept, crucial time too with Knights on the comeback
try 5 - poorly executed and I agree about potential knock on.

So for me Try 3 we worked them over and scored. The remainders were from kicks (yes set play but 50/50 at best) or an intercept or a potential knock on. We'll take them obviously. All I'm saying is that I don't think we are as close to having a decent attack as some think we are. We left a few tries on the field that were disallowed, The Knights had 3 or more as well though....

We have dominated stats in most games. Hopefully our attack can click and create more like Try 3 we saw. Good news is we have been winning.

Agree except for 3. Our defence in the second half was tardy with two tries out wide being denied by exceptional defence by LM and a dubious call of knock on.
We were lucky to deny those two tries.

I think those two no tries were as cut and dry as the TT and Ali no tries. Like i don't even see that many upset knight fans on those disallowed ones, you could see them pretty clearly on the replys IMO.

Yeah Taine has the elusiveness to get into line breaking positions but just lacks the strength through hips to bust through. He has about 6 or 7 of those nearly breaks this year and is the difference between him being a pretty good replacement and an out and out star. I remember Sam Tomkins had the same problem when he was here as well.
