The bunker doesn’t want to make that call. But it was inconclusive, if ball touches his fingers the momentum of the ball is travelling forward most logically as it was kicked in a forward direction, but man did he earn his money and have to pore over the replays…..just knew we were going to lose it….

I would recommend that there is basically 60 seconds for the bunker to make a call once it goes up. If it’s not conclusive within that time then the referees call goes.

It takes out the shockers where the ref just misses it on field, but keeps the game flowing and rewards momentum.

Someone posted earlier that Rocco Berry got a finger to the ball touching the ground before JAC scores a 100m try. But they didn’t pore over that one. Gotta put some common sense into the game….at least until we get AI referees.

Yea I agree let bunker have a time limit. If something is a howler and easy decision they can make the call quick.

the only way change will happen is if the bunker does it against a team like panthers or dogs etc

So reflecting on the key moments

Tries conceded -
1. Berry butchered try, Marata missing the Fox, Boyd too far for him to tackle

2. Roger fantastic bat back, Cape threw the ball at a defender’s head. Lomax definitely stopped to take the tackle and avoid the bunker, Egan was the only one chasing him from behind

Egan missed tackle and Marata wasn’t sliding - try

3. CHT ball watching, should be covering or in line with that second rower

4. EIT & TMM failed to lock up the hands for offload (inexperience?). CNK can’t defend 1 on 1 or more

Tries
1. Good CHT pass to Pompey running a good line
2. Roger monster break. 2 on 2 Pompey drew Lomax in to offload for Roger
3. Boyd bomb for Leka
4. Boyd pass to Leka

Butchered try - a step or a pass required

Were the CNK 2-3 ball hogging plays correct or butchered line breaks??

I actually quite liked how we dished up the shape on most attacking 4-5th tackles, tried it once on the last too.

Main take away for me - CHT not zoned in at crucial times, Marata clocks off when the ball’s passed him, Egan hitting a wall from endless 80min games earlier, CNK unsure if he correctly or wrongly ball hogs

CNK I think has “Steve Price meter padding syndrome” a bit, sure it’s valuable but the ball hogging of late negates it a bit. CHT whilst he’s had a good season I still don’t trust him in clutch moments, he tends to get a good trick play away every so often but the undoes it by trying to do it every time after that.
Rts like Charnze ball hogs too, great players in their own rights but it seems like they're all one man bands.

I slowed it right down and I am pretty sure he forced it the way the ball squirted away rather than pushed away, the only reason I can think of not giving it is the Creighton incident where they want you to control the ball before grounding if it’s not on the ground, but we were probably robbed so they can have this 110m try on the highlight reel

Unless if they have Zack Snyder style slowmo showing gap between fingers and ball

Controlling it in the Crichton situation is if you touch it/knock it forward you need to regather it before grounding. In the Berry case he just needed to ground it which I’m pretty sure he didn’t

Fuck bro. You got superman binocular vision or some shit!? 99% would say he didnt touch that or was at least inconclusive... the other 1% are you and fuckwit parra supporters. Even the commentators saying they couldn't see it and was inconclusive therefore should be try particularly as it was awarded in the first place
He actually admitted in the post match interview that he touched the ball.

A lot of talk about Websters style of play, but I think it is showing to be correct. The Eels thumped the Roosters last week, who just towelled up a slightly under strength Storm side. I think we just lack that bit of class in the side. If you were able to inject Hughes and Papenhuyzen into that game model, I’m sure you would have plenty of success. Hopefully next year guys like Linnane and Kali can make there way through to first grade to provide a point of difference. I think we have a good forward pack playing to a good pattern, we just need some tackle breaking ability in the backline

His preferred side is definitely on the left. Berry definitely suits the right too I reckon always leading that kick chase. Pompey has Peta Hiku flick pass in his arsenal

Makes me think if CHT should have moved the ball on more last night, 2 on 2 we probably score or threaten, Pompey can always chop back if it’s not on

That Roger try was either that or a barge over if Lomax didn’t come in. we’ve got him contracted for a few more years right? 😂 This is pretty peak centre stuff

It’s weird I wonder if the shape would be there by this time of the year and if Metcalf was the 7, if so I’d probably want to get Linnane at 6 when he’s ready for more pace, if not I’d have Metcalf at 6 next year, but I think it’s the former unfortunately he got hurt before progressing the game plan

CHT seemed to overplay a bit when Mitchell Moses took him out of play, but RTS was probably taken care of if he shifted it. Best thing he could have done was probably go in low, but easy said from my couch. I reckon there’ll be a hope that Leiataua replaces Pompey at some point. Leiataua started on the right before he was shifted to the left before dropping out

We knocked it on in the aerial contest I thought
