General Warriors Preseason 2026

Brad Arthur at the Leeds Rhinos is a ten year NRL Vet coach right?

Before him Rohan Smith is son of the Legend NRL coach Brian Smith.

They use BJJ coaches in preseason at Leeds.

As I keep saying, don't assume based off some rando comment from a poster having seen a two second short clip that a player is destined for NSW cup and short on defensive skills for the actual sport, that is a mega over reach.

Whether or not Gannon needs NSW cup time is a subject I am neutral on, because I don't know as much as those that are sure it is a fact are pulling it out of a hypothetical ass.

I will leave that up to the coaches and won't be watching two seconds of a preseason clip and using it to pad a very generalist narrative to suit. Because frankly that is a lazy way to form an argument.
Too old for jersey flegg, it’ll have to be nsw cup
Just jokes sup

This forum notorious for jumping on a tidbit of footage, or speculation, and pushing it till it's almost unsubstantiated belief. Gannon wrestling right up there with that kid who smashed the sand dunes, or SJ a divisive figure in the club cause he once was seen "eating alone" or started himself a "fashion line". Or earlier themes that somehow a split second try celebration is a sign a players at risk of an ego out of control (its funny Lukey Metcalf has one that no one seems to mind)

Tbh i think if Leka (and other players) who get the 2nd year syndrome its simply because they get worked out. There's no surprise factor, the time and room defences give them are cut markedly, so he probably will need to add another string to the bow...that challenge is on him and particulary the coaching staff. In his case the natural talent is such a strong base to supplement i think he'll be fine.

Hardly the forum majority, just one voice yelling a lot really, Then silent/gaslighting when challenged?
IMHO
Anyways it's Xmas perhaps time to step away from the keyboard and have a game of backyard cricket 😉

I wouldn't put much stock in a few seconds of wrestling from that Warriors video.

For all we know it could have been a drill to start Gannon in a disadvantage to work his way out. Or Stowers-Smith could be one of the clubs better wrestlers for all we know.

We will know more of what they have planned for Gannon when it comes to the trials. I wouldn't be surprised if he is one that plays both trials. Even then it will depend on which one the club has closer to a top squad named.

Halasima’s shoosh try celebration reminds me of AFB’s mr perfect. They look around for the camera to perform to
It is entertainment through sport so if everyone try produced stoic and non emotional reactions, the entertainment factor reduces. I'm not 100% for show boating but there is a try July thing and Fa'afili was a gun at it so I'm fine with really. At about 84.38% ÷ the circumference of an elliptical shaped pear.

Let the kids showboat

The one against tigers I thought was a bit unfortunate where he celebrated early and could have made the kick easier for Metcalf had he gone in hard to get the ball closer to the posts. Metcalf made the kick anyway but you could see the coaching staff, particularly Stacey Jones didn’t look impressed

I know. We all knew he was showing a lack of maturity but would learn by getting grilled by all in house.

Even the commentary spoke about it live. And I'm no fan of Blocker's commentary but even he said Leka would learn in time.

I don't mind it when it's the winning of a game but Leka's worst was when we were getting rammed by Melbourne and down by about 30. He gets an amazing try and show boats. We are mega super premium diamond platinum level losing by a bajillion and he show boats. That was the weirdest one in my head.

You could see in the wrestling sessions that Gannon will need to spend time in the NSW cup team to adapt to the NRL style of footy and the Warriors plays, but he'll be the one to watch and when given an opportunity in the top side will come on strong and impress many..
I thought you were taking the piss, but yeah you were right.

Looking forward to seeing who’s training in what positions when the team get back. This time last year not many were picking Metcalf at halfback with CHT as our halves pairing but it worked a treat. Not having Metcalf to start the season might require some real thinking on Webster’s part
It's a no brainer for me, we play a field position game, so we need a kicker in the halves, so the only option is Boyd. With such a vanilla half you need a creator at 6 so TMM gets the nod ahead of CHT.

Watching the pre season video , Gannon is tall but slight of build. Hope he packs on a bit of muscle in the off season. Our young bucks made him look skinny standing next to him.

I have a good feeling about him tho. Confident young man.

And Laban is huge. Seeing him tower over everybody when they were all dapping up eachother, Didn't realise how big he was. Has a huge frame. When he fills out more. He's going to be a weapon.

It stays in my memory that it was TMM at halfback that finally got a win over the panthers in 2024 after a poor record against them in recent times. He strikes me that with a full preseason there, he could be an option to start the season there? He started last season in top form tearing nsw cup apart, but it was the combination you’re talking about that was doing it. What you’re saying is likely the best option, I must admit though there were times Tanah Boyd concerned me last year. There were times he impressed me too, I’m on the fence

On the second year syndrome, especially with Leka I don’t think we used him well at all, despite how well he went he was never given early ball or put into space. I think he could improve a lot if given the right environment. Attacking/expansive footy for example

Tanah has ups. Lots of them. But killer instinct and big moment clutch ability is his Kryptonite at the moment. Once he backs himself and can fix his internal workings to embrace pressure and be the guy for big moments. He'll be a great halfback. He needs a bit of what Leka has too much of.
